Kindergarten Pretend and Learn Lesson Unit: Animals Pretend and Learn Theme: Fire Station/Hospital Whole Group Introduction to Center Center Introduction 1. Set up the center by using printable materials and sample pictures. 2. Introduce the center by brainstorming vocabulary related to theme. The teacher might want to create an anchor chart of these words. 3. Use the CLI strategy “Statues” to have the students create a statue for each vocabulary term. 4. Discuss community helpers, how do they help us? Can/Have/Are Anchor Chart 5. Tour the center and model how to use the center with the help of a few students. 6. Discuss “What to Do” and “What Not to Do” in the center. Center Participation and Organization 1. Students can complete a presentation using Animoto or Storybird 2. Set up different guest to visit class. Contact AISD Police Department or local Fire Department. 3. Students can create charts, sign-in forms, prescription pads, schedule appointments. 4. Writing: Students write fire escape plans and draw maps. Ss write a list of symptoms and possible remedies.Technology: Students use IPods, IPads, digital cameras and take pictures of students in action at the dramatic play center. Students then write stories using these pictures or create a short presentation using Animoto or Storybird.
