A Prayer for Healing:

Blessed are the poor in spirit.Blessed are those who are at the end of their tether.Blessed are those who have no one else to turn to.Blessed am I when I realise how much I need Jesus,For then Jesus is mine.

To a woman with the alabaster jar who comes, breaking the jar, breaking her heart, he says, ‘I forgive.’Blessed are the poor in spirit. To an intellectual too nervous to come to him by day, who tentatively asks, ‘How can it be?’, he says, ‘Because God so loved the world.’Blessed are the poor in spirit. To a centurion with a hopeless longing for the well-being of a sick child, who comes pleading, ‘I am not worthy, but just say the word’, he says, ‘There is healing.’Blessed are the poor in spirit. And to me, this day, coming to him with all the uncertainty of the twentieth century full of dilemmas, aware of failures, wondering what the future holds, fragile – to me he says, ‘You are the one for whom blessing is on its way. Never mind the others! You!’For this is the Gospel of Christ.

“Blessed Are the Poor in Spirit” by Peter Graystone in Geoffrey Duncan, ed., A World of Blessing, p. 47-8

The Prayer of Jesus (said) VU #914

Our Father/Mother/Creator in heaven, hallowed be your name,Your kingdom come, your will be done,on earth, as in heaven.Give us today our daily bread.Forgive us our sins,as we forgive those who sin against us.Save us from the time of trial, and deliver us from evil:For the kingdom, the power, and the glory are yours, now and forever. Amen.

*Hymn: MV #145 “Draw the Circle Wide”

Refrain: Draw the circle wide. Draw it wider still.Let this be our song, no one stands alone, standing side by side, draw the circle wide.

1 God the stillpoint of the circle, ‘round whom all creation turns;nothing lost, but held forever,

in God’s gracious arms. R2 Let our hearts touch far horizons,

so encompass great and small;let our loving know no borders, faithful to God’s call. R

3 Let the dreams we dream be larger, than we’ve ever dreamed before;let the dream of Christ be in us, open every door. R

*Blessing and Sending Forth:

(A New Creed VU 918)

We are not alone,We live in God’s world. We believe in God:who has created and is creating, who has come in Jesus, the Word made flesh,to reconcile and make new,who works in us and othersby the Spirit. We trust in God.We are called to be the Church;to celebrate God’s presence,to live with respect in Creation,to love and serve others,to seek justice and resist evil,to proclaim Jesus, crucified and risen, our judge and our hope.In life, in death, in life beyond death,God is with us.We are not alone. Thanks be to God.

Three-fold Amen
