Hi Year One Wednesday 13 th May 2020 Well, every couple of weeks I make some kind of mistake with the home learning! Yesterday I got in a muddle with the Forest School activity. I sent it to your parents later in the day. I hope you managed to do it! So far, we have learnt a bit about reptiles, a bit about birds and today we are going to look at ‘amphibians’. When I was little I used to like saying long words like ‘amphibian’! Do you know any good, long words? Tell us when we speak to you next READING We are learning to recognise the graphemes g, dge, j and ge within words. You are going to make your own page of an information book about animals. Choose your favourite animal and either take a photo, find a photo on the internet or draw your best picture of the animal. Stick the picture in the middle of your page. Can you write labels around your picture? Make sure your arrows are pointing to the right part of the picture! What would your title be? Hi Year One Wednesday 13th May 2020

Well, every couple of weeks I make some kind of mistake with the home learning! Tell us when we speak to you next

READING

We are learning to recognise the graphemes g, dge, j and ge within words.

What do these words mean?

goblin, hedgerow, ledge

LITERACY

We are learning to recognise the features of non-fiction books.

Look below for the answers to yesterday’s questions.

Remember, the title is the name of the page and it should tell you what the page is going to be about.

MATHS

We are learning the BEGINNINGS of factions.

Today we are going to learn about finding a quarter of a shape. Finding a quarter means splitting your shape into four equal pieces.

Get a piece of paper. Can you fold or cut it into quarters? (You must have four equal parts) Can you do it in a different way? Using a new piece of paper each time, can you find different ways of making quarters? I will show you some different ways tomorrow.

FOUNDATION SUBJECTS

We are learning to name different types of animals.

Today, we are looking at amphibians.

Watch the clip https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TiYIiQKG4NA to find out more about amphibians.

Can you say the word amphibian (am fib ee an)? Frogs, toads and newts are amphibians. They are good at hiding and their bodies are often ‘camouflaged’ like the one in the picture to help them hide.

Pretend to be a frog today and play ‘Hide and Seek’ with someone in your house. Can you make yourself camouflaged so that they can’t spot you?

From Tuesday 12th May… Answers

Can you find…

The title The Biggest Tortoise

Labels – little head, hard shell, Galapagos tortoise

A Fact File – the box with name, likes and hates

Page Numbers – 4 & 5

Writing which is in bold – The Biggest Tortoise, Name, Likes, Hates

Why do information books choose to use photos rather than drawing pictures?

To give the reader a proper idea of what the animal looks like rather than a drawing

Why is it important to have page numbers in an information book?

So that you can find the information easily, especially if you use the contents page.

What have you learnt from this page?

Anything you found out – I found out that they didn’t have teeth.

Where would I find out what the tortoise eats?

Likes: To eat grass and leaves

If you were writing this book, which word would you choose to put in the glossary? (We used a glossary in the books Hungry Birds and Animal Skeletons)

I would choose ‘shell’. There might be other words that you think are interesting that might need explaining.
