Although Fran has sold her coach, she and daughter Nancy joined us for the weekend and other family members visited on Saturday. Hal Soutar’s mother joined us for some activities, and Dustin (the Dana’s grandson) spent the weekend. The Wilsons were unable to stay the entire time but they joined us for dinner on Saturday. Several coaches arrived on Thursday and after Happy Hour we traveled to the Hollywood restaurant in Auburn for dinner. Ask Bev Vrabel about her chilling experience there. Friday was for visiting and enjoying the gorgeous weather. Some of the ladies went to garage sales and then they worked on their outfits for the Sock Hop at GEAR. Thanks to Char for making our poodle skirts. Plans were discussed for our entry into the Chapter Parade. We’re ready for the competition! Saturday was a jam-packed day from the apple cider donuts in the morning until the chapter meeting at night. We asked you to share your hobbies, interests and collections, and you didn’t disappoint. We have crocheters, photographers, and wood workers in our chapter. Several women quilt and the Soutars enjoy geo-cacheing. Rich can show you how to diaper a baby using a baseball analogy, and Paul makes sign holders. Fran and Lyn enjoy painting. The McCoys collect McCoy pottery and Jim Mancini collects NASCAR diecasts. This is just a sampling of the talents and interests shared. We had many generous donations for our auction resulting in a lively bidding session led by auctioneers Bart and Dan. The auction raised a whopping $446.50 for our treasury. A big thank you to all who donated and/or bid. Unfortunately we were rained out of our wagon ride on Saturday but Dan did teach us about “the birds and the bees”. Oh, wait a minute! I guess it was just the bees and the role they play in the apple growing process. SEPTEMBER RALLY A campground situated on the Barge Canal, 16 coaches, and friends from all around Central New York and Canada, combined for a fun weekend at River Forest Campground in Weedsport, NY. As usual at a New York Centrals function, there was no shortage of good food. Apple cider donuts and a variety of home made sweet breads started us out in the morning. Wine, cheese, dips and Bart’s famous lemonade for Happy Hour. A hot dog roast for lunch on Saturday. A chicken bar-b-que with delicious desserts for supper assured that no one went away hungry. We’d like to give a big thank you to all who attended and participated in the activities. All weekend, people pitched in and helped wherever help was needed—whether it was picking up after a meal, washing tables, or cooking hotdogs, or whatever needed doing. That’s one of the things that makes the New York Centrals special!

President’s Report 607-753-8758 Rich Burrell [email protected]

Thanks to all for electing me as your next President of the New York Centrals. I want to take this opportunity to thank Paul and Sandy for all they have done for the chapter during Paul’s term as President. As we wind down the 2013 rally season, I wish to thank all those who hosted the rallies, your efforts are greatly appreciated. We started out at Southwoods RV Resort in Byron, then the Good Sam Rally at the fairgrounds, followed by a joint rally with the TIVs at Association Island in Henderson. These were followed by the Oswego rally at Yesterday’s RV Park and finally the rally at River Forest Park in Weedsport. All of the rallies provided all who attended with an abundance of the 3 F’s: Fun, Friendship and Food.As we head into the off season, we do have a couple of business items to take care of. FMCA national has requested that we look at our By-Laws and make some adjustments. With that in mind, I have appointed a committee to review these requests and provide the membership with any needed changes to our By-Laws, which can then be voted on early next season. The committee will consist of Charlotte Burrell, Dolores Wilson and Bart Barton. The committee will meet during GEAR and hopefully will be able to make the proposed changes which will be provided to all members for review. The other item is the creation of a rally site directory. This will be a member generated listing of sites which could be used for future rallies. Hopefully this directory will alleviate one obstacle for future rally hosts as they contemplate taking on this duty. You will see later in the newsletter more information on this directory. Finally, to those members heading south for the winter, have a safe trip down and back and enjoy the sunshine. To those of us staying in the frozen tundra of the north, stay warm and safe and keep a lookout for information on the mid-winter lunch.Rich

1st Vice President’s Report(315) 689-9397 Dan McCoy [email protected]

Where did the summer go? September rally completed, only the Pennsylvania rallies and our formal rally season will be complete. Susan and I really enjoyed planning and hosting the September rally. The “Show and Tell” highlighted a wide range of talents our members have and the donated items for our auction were outstanding. The auction raised $446.50 that was added to the chapter treasury for use at a later date.

Preparation for the GEAR rally in York PA is well underway and the New York Centrals are out to bring home more awards from both the “sock hop” and the “parade”.

Our dinner meeting is Sunday, October 27, 2013. Please make note of the change from other years, as to the start time: cocktails at 2:00 PM and dinner at 3:00 PM. RSVP to: [email protected] or call me 315-569-3713, before October 21, 2013.

Those of you, who travel this winter to warmer climates, travel safely. I hope to see some of you in Perry GA in March at the International FMCA Rally.

Thoughts of the month

Detroit has become the largest city in U.S. history to file for bankruptcy. What happened was, Detroit’s population dropped something like 70 percent, but the government got bigger. The tax base got smaller, the government got bigger. Thank God that kind of thing could never happen in Washington.

The paperless office will become a reality at about the same time as the paperless toilet. MESSAGE FROM THE PAST PRESIDENT Paul Hallagan

Hi everyone   I wanted to take a minute and send a little note to congratulate the new slate of officers. I feel the entire team will do a great job for the chapter. With that said I also need to thank all the members of the chapter for the help that I received during my term. The last few years have been fun. Again, many thanks to everyone.

Your retired President Paul Hallagan

P S: we still need rally Hosts

Secretary’s Report607-753-8758 Charlotte Burrell [email protected] I’m sorry that our rally season is almost at a close. We have enjoyed every rally this year. Hopefully, the New York Centrals will make a big impact at the Great Eastern Area Rally in York and bring home another trophy! Thanks to the McCoy’s great ideas, we are sure to stand out in the Chapter Parade. I have made 8 poodle skirts for the 50’s Sock Hop and we are now trying to see if the guys can also get a “slicked back” 50’s look. The next week we will be at White Oaks Campground in Strasburg. We expect 8 coaches there. If you haven’t reserved a site, you can still call 717-687-6207 to see if they have any openings. The rally form is available on the website. Many thanks to Paul for serving our Chapter so well as President for the last 3 years. We have several new members as a direct result of his recruiting. Also, thanks to all who hosted and co-hosted our very successful rallies this season. Once again, we have great rallies planned for next year. We still need a rally finalized for June. Does anyone have any ideas? I am looking into a rally at a potato farm, but we would like to hear other ideas also.I hope to see you all at the year-end dinner. Note that due to several requests, it will be in the afternoon this year.

2nd Vice President’s Report 585-733-7748 Bob Flight [email protected]

The nominations were made.  The elections are complete.  The campaign dust has settled.  And what do we have?  A new set officers.   I’m your new 2nd VP.  A gratitude of “Thank You” goes out to all.  I will continue to be your webmaster and now add the needs and challenges of this office too.  There are a couple of activities still to come.  We have the GEAR rally followed by the Lancaster rally and an October Dinner meeting.  Please look at our Rally Schedule for details. The camping season in this area is winding down.  We will be thinking of those that follow the sun to the warmer regions, but Vera & I will be staying here for most of the cooler months.  For those that do travel, have a safe trip.  As we migrate south or hibernate for the winter, Facebook is a great means to follow what others are doing.  Sign on and search for your ‘friends’.  The NYCentrals webpage is another great source of information.  We will be adding new topics and pages in coming months, so stay tuned for the updates.Regards,Bob

Thank you Sue and Dan McCoy for a terrific rally at River Forest RV Park in Weedsport. The rain did not dampen the festivities and we did not need “Big Red”.

An update on the Northeast Area Motorhome Association. Tommy Z. has been elected the NEA Vice President. We just voted for candidates for two more VPs and a Treasurer. There will be a North East Area Rally (NEAR) next year and the New York Centrals are planning to participate. We will keep you postedElaine and I have registered for the Greater eastern Area Rally (GEAR) in York, PA, in October. We will be caravanning in as a group on Tuesday, October 8th. We will meet at 12:30 pm on Tuesday, October 8th at the West Manchester Mall in York and leave for the rally site at 1:00 pm.

If you have not already told us you are going, please email me at [email protected] as soon as you can and I’ll get directions out to you.  As of now we have Burrells, Esslers, McCoys, Vrabels, Wilsons, Zakorchevnoys and Bartons. Elaine and I are looking forward to seeing you all in October.

Thanks to all the members who renewed their dues in such a timely fashion. As I stated at the meeting, we currently have 50 coaches in our membership.  I think this is a good number as I know some chapters are really down on numbers. Continue to spread the word among your RV friends about FMCA and our chapter. We can always use new members!  Also I would like to thank Paul for his 3 years as our President and also to congratulate Rich on becoming our new President

New York Centrals Rally Site Directory. In an effort to ease the process of becoming a rally host, a directory of sites which have been used in the past for successful rallies, or may provide a location for a rally, will be created by the membership of the Chapter.

Page 8: newyorkcentrals.com Files/Newsl…  · Web viewSEPTEMBER RALLY . A campground situated on the Barge Canal, 16 coaches, and friends from all around Central New York and Canada, combined

These locations can be campgrounds with hookups or dry camping sites. If you remember a location that you enjoyed and provided a good rally experience, or someplace you think could be a good rally site, share it so it may be considered in the future. Below is the information needed which will go into the directory which will be posted on the Chapter web page. You can send the information to me via email ([email protected]) or by regular US mail, or you could send it directly to our WebMaster and 2nd VP Bob Flight in the same way, email ([email protected]) or US mail.

Also, you may include a contact name if you know one as well as any interesting information about the attractions and fun things to do in the area. Hopefully this will make the rally host process a little easier.
