- Elect in new post-grad representative
- moved by Naomi, seconded by Matt and Rhys. Favoured by all, opposed by none
Item 3 O-Week Ideas- Have booked a stall on the Barr Smith Lawns for the Tuesday (19 20?/2/19)- Do we accept to keep membership at $5? (motion moved by Naomi,
seconded by Matt. favoured by all, opposed by none)- Finger Food - lollies, baked goods, ect. If we do food, we need to let the
UNION know what it contains (max give-away limit)- What to have at our stall
- Science-based games?- Science jokes?- Science Experiment?
- First year handbook- If the committee has free time, please send in any submissions!- The Science Faculty has sponsored us in the past, and has offered
again to help us with printing costs - they also say they ‘are happy to sponsor any event we hold that helps students connect with other
science students, and also with learning science’- Joe was happy to be the primary editor, so is anyone else interested
to assist him with this? And in regards to organising a sub-committee, we can either use slack or messenger, or even set up a fb group for file-sharing :) Andrew is volunteered to help out with the editing along with Joe.
- Motion to use fb > Slack moved by Naomi, seconded by Andrew, Matt and Rhys. favoured by all, opposed by none.
- -re-designing banner? (Tuesday 20th of feb) (Sarah and Megan said they were keen to help in the design, are they still up to it? If so, set a due date,to be finished by latest, 11th of Feb - two weeks before O-week)
- Move to redesign the banner
Item 4 Science Meet and Greet Event / Vote First Year Rep
- We can use O-week to advertise this event, and use this event to advertise for our Pub crawl too.
- We will also use this event to vote in a first year rep! (hence, during/after O-week we need to set up an application for first years to apply to our committee! Easy to do on survey monkey)
- Pin down a location (Decide during meeting) (Communications officer to organise?) - investigate further
- The Mawson building (previously held event here)- Hub mezzanine- ...or another room (suggestions?)
- $5 dominos pizza apparently outrank all other pizzas with their low cost-to-square-cm-of-pizza ratio
- Move to decide on domino’s pizza?- Will later need to apply for a food grant from the Union (treasurer)
-Item 5 Collaboration BBQ
- Have gotten into contact with the new Biology Society of South Australia (BSSA) club, and to help promote both clubs, thinking of doing a collaboration BBQ. They are happy to do this with us, but are also holding their own BBQ about two weeks prior to this as well
- Have previously collaborated with the Adelaide Health Student
Society (AHSS) and it helped to boost booth clubs- Split cost on food but also split profit- Should we collaborate with the Bio Society? Motion has been
moved by Naomi, however opposed by majority (Matt, Rhys, Megan, River, Andrew, Sarah) Seconded my Matt. Note: further collaboration during middle of the year is considered
- Would we prefer a sausage-based BBQ (with vego/vegan options available) or do we want a French toast/pancake breakfast BBQ? Adelaide Uni Maths Society (AUMS) did pancakes / French toast BBQ last semester and it made a lot more profit than a normal BBQ because the food was cheap to buy… however, since it’s a bit more weird to stop by, there is a chance we won’t have as many customers :(
- Decision to have a sausage BBQ or a french toast pancake BBQ?
- Motion to have sausage BBQ (1st event) moved by Naomi, seconded by Rhys. Favoured by all, opposed by none. French Toast pancake will be held during next event
- Should the event be free for all members? To help attract club members
- Closer to the date; contact union about grants (treasurer)- Closer to the date; contact union about borrowing tents, find a good BBQ
(communications officer) - borrow through the union- Motion has been moved by Naomi, seconded by Matt and Andrew.
Favoured by all and opposed by none.- Scheduling set up by secretary (doodle poll for free time + 2 hours by max )
Item 6 PubCrawl- Set up a theme survey-monkey, to gather ideas about pub-crawl themes
(Vice President). It only needs the name, student ID number, and suggestion.
- Free shirt for whoever makes up the best theme idea! Previously, things that relate to science and alcohol work well (especially puns, say ‘alcohol is a solution’) but even punny things that arn’t alcoholic related can be successful too, e.g previously year was LABrador, CELLfie, (and when Pokemon Go came out…) The Theory of Evolution, available in 3 colours :)
- MOTION moved by Naomi, seconded by Matt. Favored by all, opposed by none
- Make the decision by O-week on what our theme will be!- After Vice Pres. sets up the survey monkey,Communications
manager - post a post on fb for entries, and send an email to the club for ideas
- Closer to the date after O-week, just before ordering shirts: Contact the union about grants (treasurer)
- Matt, Alex and Sarah can help to design pub-crawl shirts- BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY: Does anyone have any good
draw/design-skills?- During O-week decide on the pubs we will ask (send out emails to them/visit
them)- After: Contact police, risk assessment, responsible persons, photographer.- End of week 1; Finish design, and send to printers (Australian Embroidery
Screen Print & Sublimation). Set up an event on fb for it- Buy shirts before/after- In charge: Andrew and Joe (communication officers) are in charge of
PubCrawl event to run smoothly- Location: PubCrawl to take place on Rundle Street this year
