Introduction: Vantage point…

We will see our salvation in three stages:

Write out Your Story

I. A Look ___________ – 10:46

Now they came to Jericho. As He went out of Jericho with His disciples and a great multitude, blind Bartimaeus, the son of Timaeus, sat by the road begging.

I want to take a few moments to look back at what our lives were like before we surrendered to Jesus Christ. I believe that we can see ourselves in the life of Bartimaeus.

A. _____________

SATAN'S POWER TO BLIND II Corinthians 4:3-4 – “But even if our gospel (Good News of Salvation through Christ) is veiled, it is veiled to those who are perishing, whose minds the god of this age has blinded, who do not believe, lest the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine on them." (Brackets added for clarity)

B. ____________

Beggar - "a person, typically a homeless one, who lives by asking for money or food.”

II. A Look ________ – 10:47-52 And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, “Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!” Then many warned him to be quiet; but he cried out all the more, “Son of David, have mercy on me!” So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called. Then they called the blind man, saying to him, “Be of good cheer. Rise, He is calling you.” And throwing aside his garment, he rose and came to Jesus. So Jesus answered and said to him, “What do you want Me to do for you?” The blind man said to Him, “Rabboni, that I may receive my sight.”52 Then Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road.

A. Your _____________.

Verse 47 - And when he heard that it was Jesus of Nazareth, he began to cry out and say, "Jesus, Son of David, have mercy on me!"

Verse 48 - Then many warned him to be quiet; but he cried out all the more, "Son of David, have mercy on me!" In the Greek language it means that they __________ him, the imperfect tense is employed which stresses that the crowds sought to __________ Bartimaeus, but that he just got louder.

B. Your ___________.

John 6:44 - "No man can come to me, except the Father which hath sent me draw him: and I will raise him up at the last day." (KJV)

Verse 49 - "So Jesus stood still and commanded him to be called. Then they called the blind man, saying to him, "Be of good cheer. Rise, He is calling you."

C. Your ______________.

Verse 50 - And throwing aside his garments, he rose and came to Jesus.

The word, "rose" literally means that he ___________ to his feet, or that he came up with a spring. In other words, he quickly got up off the ground in answer to the _______ from Jesus. I like what we read here in this verse,

... he came to Jesus.

When we came to Jesus, we, too, like Bartimaeus heard Jesus ask,“What do you want Me to do for you?" 3

We knew what we ____________. We needed spiritual eyes. We needed _____________. In this verse, Bartimaeus calls Jesus, "Rabboni", which means "my Master, my Lord, my Great One". It is only used twice in the Bible (here and in John 20:16). It refers to a holy respect and reverence. Bartimaeus asked that he might receive his sight.

John 3:3 - Most assuredly, I say to you, unless one is born again, he cannot see, the kingdom of God

III. A Look ____________ – 10:52 Then Jesus said to him, “Go your way; your faith has made you well.” And immediately he received his sight and followed Jesus on the road.

A. You were ___________. "Go your way; your faith has made you well."

We read, And immediately he received his sight.

THE LIGHT OF THE WORLD IS JESUS

B. You ____________ Jesus. followed Jesus on the road.

What is this? Discipleship!
