The Medium

The trailer will be for a Tv series to be aired on channel 4, filmed in as a single camera production. Creating a single camera production will allow for more intricate angles and cheaper filming cost.

“Based on the well-known story of the prodigal son the show will be in each episode half in the past as a flashback and half filmed in the present with the prodigal son and different people in the story being the key themes of different episodes. The whole series will start

with his leaving, which will be shown in the trailer, being unexplained and left for the viewer to question, then the rest of the series will be based in the 2 periods of time which will allow the viewer to try and figure out how he got to this position and if there is any hope for him. This style comes from the "Arrow TV" series where it had parallel storylines in different time

The Working Title

The current title is A Father’s Proverb as the story will centre around the Father’s proverbs and in the end getting to know his real character, one which is not selectively thought of and twisted in the prodigals mind and his relationship between him and his son. The trailer itself will have a narrated discourse from the book of

proverbs as the father talking to the son when he is little in the past.

The Genre

The trailer Genre will be drama as it portrays relationship conflict in an ordinary setting and is based upon reality but is focusing on the social aspects. The story might have aspects of a love story woven in but in the trailer it won’t be portrayed as a romantic film.

film shows us human beings at their best, their worst, and everything in-between. Each of the types of subject-matter themes have various kinds of dramatic plots. Dramatic films are

The Trailer Type

The trailer type will be either A Teaser trailer or a Theatrical trailer depending on if I can get the extra footage from the flashback to work for my trailer. As I will have some the trailer in the present and some in the past, however, the past tense filming will be challenging so will depend on how well the outcome is so to push up the trailer length to a theatrical release.

The Audience

The audience will be for young adults and families, this will be due to the prodigal’s life and the drama. This has come about from the research I had gotten from my class mates to when they watch tv and they said usually at evening and so I’ve made it so that the contents won’t be so light it could be for children but not indecent so that a family couldn’t watch it.

“This could be shown by God point view shots throughout the series to make you think that he is being watched and is filmed a lot in a fourth person like view as though the camera man is someone watching what is going on, With this method of filming the camera man

could explore the surroundings and you could see his reaction to things happening around by the movement of the camera. Also this will save for some age mature content as a verse

says "Because the LORD your God walks in the midst of your camp, to deliver you and to give up your enemies before you, therefore your camp must be holy, so that he may not see

anything indecent among you and turn away from you." and "You who are of purer eyes

than to see evil and cannot look at wrong," this could be translated in a long shot outside of the building when a party is going on or wandering camera looking to the sunset or at the things around when evil is happening on scene. However this is still an idea which could be

improved and talked about in a research group.”

The Techniques

In the trailer itself I will use the pan movement technique via using a stair lift this will hopefully create a swift continuous

motion down the stairs. Another technique I will try to use will be tracking and hidden cuts to transition into a photo, this could be done via overlaying clips in editing or using a green screen while filming. The whole trailer will be single camera and will try to make a continuous single shot effect as well as implementing the

idea of a wondering camera which will look at environment as well as the characters to tell the story as well as producing a character in

itself.

“Proverbs the father will teach his ton in the flash back periods and will echo into the future tense when the Son has to make the decisions whether to follow the advice he was given or is just narration over from what his father says maybe to his brother but he is on the camera

doing the opposite and facing consequences because of his foolishness, depression, loss of friends, life and love. But toward the second half of the season there will be proverbs of

hope, forgiveness and return. This could add to a wandering camera technique of filming as it says

"Wisdom cries aloud in the street,

in the markets she raises her voice;".

“This could be things happening that the main character is not even realizing but it’s there and it's crying out, actions of people loving each other and of families and of justice and of

charity and of street preachers and of people speaking. This happened to me in the doctor's clinic a woman in front of me speaking about a party she had prepared and the people she

invited didn't come and she was gutted. This brought light to the parable of the banquet how God prepared for our righteousness and it cost him so much, his only son but still people don't come, at times I haven't come, not believing him that it was all finished that it was as

good as it was. But this was just a personal experience of this but through nature there could be whole episodes dedicated to what wisdom is crying out all around him and his story could

even be secondary at sometimes as he misses the point of some lessons and never knows what had happened but you as the viewer do know.”

Sound

The trailer I have a couple backing tracks which will go behind the narration of the father which I Plan to have running through the trailer. This will be the tract Overture instrumental or Immanuel

instrumental by beautiful eulogy.

However I have asked a friend from Church (Hugh) to play a song then I can record him playing and place it in the trailer.

Conclusion

The Trailer will try to fit a drama category with a target audience of 15-40's as young adults and families. The production will be

single camera with multiple movement and editing techniques added to make it stand out. The scene will be of the son's departure as well as having elements of flash back. However depending on circumstances some details might change but the overall structure and expressed

idea shall be filmed to the best of the director’s ability.
