Wallace And Gromit's World Of Invention: From A To BSunday,27 February 2011 Final

In the last episode of the series, Wallace and Gromit explore incredible transportation inventions from around the globe as the desire for freedom and escape have driven human inventiveness through the ages. In the segment 'Contraption Countdown' the focus is on peculiar transport devices and we find out how to cross the River Thames in a plastic bag.

We discover the intention behind laser propulsion in the creation of flying saucer technology and meet Cedric Lynch, an illustrious engineer who invented electric tricycles as he competes in the world famous TT race on the Isle of Man with his electric motorbike. We take a trip to Russia and meet Mikhail Puchkov in St. Petersburg who has spent the last 30 years building his own submarine.

We meet Sir Clive Sinclair who devised the first digital watches, home computers and pocket calculators but who still has plans to revolutionise personal transport. Jem Stansfield looks at Brunel's Atmospheric Railway system and discovers that perhaps it wasn't the failure history remembers it being.

David Attenborough's First Life: ArrivalSunday,27 February 2011 New Series

In 50 years of broadcasting, Sir David Attenborough has travelled the globe to document the living world in all its wonder. Now, in the landmark series First Life, he completes his journey by going back in time to the very roots of the tree of life, in search of the very first animals.

From the fog-bound coastline of Newfoundland to the deserts of North Africa and the rainforests of Queensland, Attenborough finds evidence in fossils and living animals of an extraordinary period in Earth's history, half a billion years ago, when animals first appeared in the oceans - from the first animals that moved, to the first predators that killed and the first legs that walked on land.

This is a story that can only be told now, because in the last 20 years, stunning fossil finds at sites across the world have transformed our understanding of the first life forms. The latest technology allows us, in photorealistic computer-generated imagery, to discover the creatures that evolved the traits and tools that helped all animals, including us, to survive to this day.

Agatha Christie's Miss Marple: The Secret Of ChimneysSunday,27 February 2011

A lavish weekend party sees Miss Marple (Julia McKenzie) accompany Lady Virginia Revel (Charlotte Salt) to her family home of Chimneys - a house which was once prized for its diplomatic gatherings, until a rare diamond was stolen from the premises over twenty years ago.

Virginia must decide by the end of the weekend whether to accept a marriage proposal from the tenacious career politician George Lomax (Adam Godley) or to follow her heart and the courtship of another more adventurous suitor, Anthony Cade (Jonas Armstrong).

Throughout the course of the evening a contract for the sale of the house is drawn up, only for the purchaser to be found dead in a secret passageway within its walls.

Chief Inspector Battle (Stephen Dillane) arrives from Scotland Yard to investigate, enlisting Miss Marple's help. When the bones of a long dead servant are uncovered, Miss Marple begins to realise that the secret of Chimneys is darker than even she had realised.

The Secret of Chimneys stars Jonas Armstrong (Robin Hood, The Street), Michelle Collins (Hotel Babylon, EastEnders), Stephen Dillane (Macbeth, The Shooting of Thomas Hurndall), Edward Fox (Oliver Twist, Day of the Jackal), Adam Godley (Mad Men, Breaking Bad, Cor Blimey!), Anthony Higgins (Judge John Deed), Mathew Horne (Gavin and Stacey, Horne and Cordon), Ruth Jones (The Street, Gavin and Stacey), Dervla Kirwan (Law & Order: UK, Doctor Who) and Charlotte Salt (Tudors, Beowulf).

Compass: Julian MorrowSunday,27 February 2011

What makes a good life? Why are we here? Is there a God and what is God anyway? As a theologian, host Scott Stephens, is fascinated by life's big questions, so he's asking prominent Australians to open up and reflect on their lives to find out what they think is the meaning of life.

So begins a new six-part Compass series hosted by Scott Stephens, a theologian who each week explores the deeper issues of life with a high profile Australian.

Featured in this series are Matt Preston, Lindy Chamberlain-Creighton, Julian Morrow, Clare Bowditch, Philip Nitschke and Rolf de Heer.

Scott asks them about their lives and beliefs, as well as the experiences, emotions and insights that have shaped and changed them.

In this episode Scott invites comedian and television producer Julian Morrow to reflect on his beliefs, background and his work in television. Julian is the executive producer of The Chaser. Its unique brand of guerrilla comedy has made it one of television's most popular and contentious programs. Scott talks to Julian about some of the show's more controversial sketches, his Catholic upbringing and experiences that have changed his life.

Queensland Floods Special: After The DelugeTuesday,1 March 2011

A one-hour documentary on the flash flooding that decimated the Lockyer Valley on Monday January 10 and its aftermath.

Seasoned and young ABC reporters who covered the stories from the flood revisit the ravaged areas to see how communities are faring after the disaster.

Detailing the constant rain over the preceding months, the film will touch on the extraordinary events in Toowoomba and the combination of planning, luck, and timing that saw Paul Lockyer and ABC crew Gary Ticehurst and Berger Breland land in the devastated Lockyer Valley town of Grantham the day after an inland tsunami destroyed it – and 24 hours before other media.

Reeling with the horror at the stories of death and destruction they gathered the townspeople, and joined by other ABC staff, they spent two days documenting Grantham’s fate in words and pictures and also the efforts to find survivors and catalogue the dead.

The experience, even for seasoned journalists, was shocking and unforgettable.

ABC colleague Kirrin McKechnie covers the early return of people to Grantham and the Lockyer Valley. Two weeks after the town was washed away, McKechnie found people still traumatised. “It was like the whole town had been put through a shredder,” she said.

Combining the personal stories of the ABC journalists and the amazing tales of survival, with previously unseen footage of water engulfing Grantham, this film is a compelling record of an event unparalleled in Australian history.

Narrator Leigh Sales also speaks to experts on how the floods unfolded and whether they could have been avoided.

Roo's (Alison Bell) gyno, G-Bomb (Shaun Micallef), needs to see her urgently. Could this be the answer to what the hell's been going on? With EJ (Celia Pacquola) in tow, Roo fronts G-Bomb only to be told he wants her to see a shaman specialising in reproductive organ possession. Roo storms out into the waiting room - straight into Charlie (Abe Forsythe) - and it's beyond awkward. EJ and Roo dissect the matter as EJ bundles a reluctant Roo off to see the shaman. Does this mean Charlie has a girlfriend? But an embarrassing moment of defensive motor-mouthing from Roo reveals Charlie's motives were entirely innocent. Roo ponders what new depths she can plumb with the guy she seems to be falling for.

When Zach (Toby Truslove) stumbles across the photoboard of exes, he confronts Roo and she has no choice but to set him straight. Zach is horrified - he's dying? Roo reassures him it'll all be solved before it gets to him. Zach insists Roo has a duty to inform her victims and offers to help. Horrified by the thought of Zach's bumbling 'assistance', Roo states her case in no uncertain terms - Zach is to butt out. Completely ignoring Roo, Zach attempts to unite Roo's exes, with disastrous results that not only speed up the death order but also lead to EJ discovering about Roo and Zach's 'mistake'.

New Tricks: Dark ChocolateFriday,4 March 2011

Strickland presents DS Pullman (Amanda Redman) with a delicate new case. In a present-day rape in North London, the attacker's DNA has been linked to two rapes from the late 1990s - both in the Pyramid Chocolate Factory in West London. Pullman and her team are to re-examine the old unsolved case. The present day victim, Helen Vestry was working in a bakery when she was attacked.

Pullman goes over the unsolved case files with the team. The first victim, Eileen Harrison, was raped on the shop floor late at night; the other, Jean Saunders, in the changing rooms at the end of an evening shift. All the men then employed in the factory were tested for DNA, along with a handful of contract cleaners - but none matched the rapist's DNA.

However, Duncan Miller's chocolate factory hides many dark secrets and the team find themselves with more cases than they bargained for.

Can We Help?Saturday,5 March 2011

This week on Can We Help? meet 89-year-old Gordon Mallitt who contacted the program with a simple request to see footage of the place where he considers he came of age - Chowder Bay in Sydney. After a bit of digging the Can We Help? team was compelled to tell Gordon's story and surprised him with a little more than he expected.

Gordon returns to Chowder Bay more than 60 years after he served there as a member of the Royal Australian Engineers. He is determined to record his personal history for his family and through this experience awakens fond memories and some tales of challenging times that add up to make Gordon who he is today.

Also on the show meet two wonderful helpers who have given up everything in order to focus on their modest farm that looks after abandoned animals and provides a safe and nurturing environment for troubled young people.

Expert linguist Kate Burridge tackles some viewer questions about words that don't sound like the way they look, for example colonel, or even, doughnut.

Finally, health and medicine expert Dr Norman Swan provides some advice about a habit that gives him the heebie-jeebies - cracking your fingers.

Art NationThis week Fenella Kernebone is hosting Art Nation from the 2011 Perth International Arts Festival. A highlight of her visit is a trip to UK theatre company 1927's acclaimed production The Animals and Children Took to the Streets. This is seductive theatre - storytelling with stunning film, animation, live music and amazing performances, set against a metropolis of inner city paranoia.

Namila Benson takes us back to 1940s post-war Perth back-stage at Waltzing the Wilarra - a musical directed by Wesley Enoch featuring Ernie Dingo and an all-star Indigenous cast. Back in the bad old days of curfews and fear of arrest for consorting, whites and blacks manage to form their own club and for a night, experience rare happy times singing, dancing and with a little luck, romance.

Also featured is Legs on the Wall’s My Bicycle Loves You. A cabaret named after one of the great films used in the show, My Bicycle Loves You is uplifting vaudeville, acrobatics, a little magic and rambunctious piano hall music.

Fenella also chats with the extraordinary Martha Wainwright on Skype about her Festival show which features a moving tribute to her late mother, Kate McGarrigle and a critically acclaimed tribute to Edith Piaf.

Closing the program is a performance by soul/funk legend Roy Ayres, the man famous for 'Everybody Loves the Sunshine' and the second-most sampled musician in hip-hop after James Brown.

Art Nation will be repeated on ABC2 - Sunday, February 27 at 9:30pm
