Mascot - The Mongols have many stories and songs about horses. Legendary horses include magical flying steeds, beloved horses that visit in dreams,

and a rich body of folklore about equine protagonists. The horse has long played a role as a sacred animal, and Mongols have a variety of spiritual beliefs regarding them.

Emblem – The outer rim features a tumen nasan, symbolizing eternity, surrounding a circular blue field, symbolizing the sky, on the centre is a combination of the soyombo symbol and the wind horse.

Religion – Traditionally, mongols practiced shamamism, worshipping the blue sky, however Tibetan Buddhism gained more popularity after it was introduced in 16th century.

History – Genghis Khan burial place remains a secret to this day. According to

legend, the attendees of his funeral were killed by soldiers so that no one outside learned about the burial site. The soldiers are also believed to have killed themselves to keep the secret completely guarded.

The Gobi desert is where one of the first instances of discovery of dinosaur eggs was made by Roy Chapman Andrews. It was this incident that inspired Indiana Jones.

Food – Mongolian cuisine is much influenced by the continental climate that dominates the region, and also a bit by the Russian and Chinese. Meat and dairy form the staple diet if this nomadic cuisine, with the use of vegetables being limited. The meat of horse, yak, beef, lamb and even camel is consumed as delicacies.

Traditional dress – A deeltei is an item of traditional clothing commonly worn and can be made from cotton, silk, wool or brocade.

Fun facts – Its known as ‘ Land of the eternal blue sky’ 30% of Mongolia’s population is nomadic. Mongolia’s are the world’s best horsemen.
