To be able to create an opening sequence we had to learn how to use certain equipments such as the tripod. Using a tripod can make a shot much better, as it reduces camera shake. The tripod also makes it a lot easier to do a 180degree panning shot as it keeps the camera steady whilst you rotate it. To be able to identify what shots we will need to capture, we had previously taken a look at previous opening sequence scenes from released movies such as Hitman, Kidulthood, Adulthood and Luther (series). By looking at these opening sequences, we were able to see what our opening sequence should show, as we did not want to give away too much of what is happening in the movie. The development of our media product has progressed well, from the planning to the final edit we produced. In our opening sequence, we used a wide range of shots like high angle shots, low angle shots, medium shots and many more. Our media product reflects towards other real media products produced, by the way that we have planned our production towards producing an opening sequence and being able to adapt to new skills like editing and using equipment which we have recently learned to use

to be able to capture certain shots.

To be able to create an opening sequence we had to learn how to use certain equipments such as the tripod. Using a tripod can make a shot much better, as it reduces camera shake. The tripod also makes it a lot easier to do a 180degree panning shot as it keeps the camera

steady whilst you rotate it. To be able to identify what shots we will need to capture, we had previously taken a look at previous opening sequence scenes from released movies such

as Hitman, Kidulthood, Adulthood and Luther (series). By looking at these opening sequences, we were able to see what our opening sequence should show, as we did not

want to give away too much of what is happening in the movie.

The development of our media product has progressed well, from the planning to the final edit we produced. In our opening sequence, we used a wide range of shots like high angle

shots, low angle shots, medium shots and many more. Getting the shots are simple, but it is how you use them and edit them together which shows our understanding on what shots

should be used in what scene. I feel that our media product does challenge other productions, as our storyline is not basic and predictable. We planned it well to a point that

we was happy with it and also looked over any bits which may seem similar to the other media products we looked at and then changed some scenes to show that we were able to

follow the task of creating our own opening sequence.

Whilst editing the footage we had collected, i was able to construct them well and i also included special effects such as dissolving, which fades one scene into the other. Using these

editing techniques have also developed my skills, as well as making our final cut a well constructed piece and exactly what we was aiming to achieve.

Here i have included a few snapshots from our final cut to show the range of angles we captured:

In what way does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of real media products?

How does your media product represent particular social groups?

Our media product represents a range of social groups, based on the content of our opening sequence which is adapted to our specific target audience. To know what our target audience want, we conducted a survey with a series of questions which enabled us to gather the information that we needed to be

able to proceed to conducting our opening sequence to suit their needs.

Our opening sequence relates to our social groups, from the urban type locations that we used, which represents a place of home for certain social

groups. Depending on the age of certain social groups, some may feel that they can relate towards the content of the opening sequence which is exactly what

we was trying to achieve in our production.

In some of the scenes we have tried to relate towards the young generation nowadays. On the scene where the girl is walking into the subway, she

constantly checks her phone but does not take notice of her surroundings, so it shows that you should always be aware of what is around you, to avoid

anything dangerous happening to you.

What kind of media institution might distribute your film and why?

As a team we watched our opening sequence and analysed it, to a point where we all had different views and discussed where it could potentially be

screened. We all came up with the idea that it would be distributed in a range of different multiplex cinemas.

The reason we have come to this conclusion is that, all children aged 15+ now spend a lot of time going to cinemas and watching new movies as soon as they have been released. So if an urban/action film like our opening sequence was released, we feel that it would be popular in a sense that they would want to

watch the movie.

Who would be the audience for your media product?

The target audience for our media product, is aimed at young teenagers aged 15+, as we feel that they would enjoy this movie more than an adult aged 20+.

Page 3: suleimanb2014.files.wordpress.com · Web viewOur opening sequence relates to our social groups, from the urban type locations that we used, which represents a place of home for certain

Therefore we have based our opening sequence around what 15+ year olds like to see and have also included props which would keep them interested in

what will happen next, as well as the location we have used.

How did you attract/address your audience?

Once we had planned our ideas for our media product, we looked into what age group would be more suited to view this type of film. Once we had

thought of that, we then produced a survey with relevant questions for our target audience to answer, so we will then be able to make the opening

sequence around their needs.

The way that we attracted our audience was once they had filled out our survey, we would tell them a little bit about what our opening sequence will

contain; therefore they will be a lot more interested to watch the media product once completed.

What have you learnt about technologies from the process of constructing this product?

The different technologies which i have now learnt how to use are very helpful and proved to make our overall production a lot easier than planned. Firstly i had just learnt how to use a tripod correctly and safely. Then once i had all of

the shots for our product, i was able to use the editing software’s to be able to construct our final piece, as well as adding an un-copyrighted soundtrack,

along with special effects in the scenes.

Looking back at your preliminary task, what do you feel you have learnt in the progression from it to the full product?

From the making of the preliminary task, i feel that i have a come a long way, in a sense that now i know more shots and how to capture them and now i can also fully edit a video myself, without consulting with others for help. I feel that

the progression has been quick and that as a production team, we have worked very well together, and with each team member providing different

skills which helped us achieve what we needed to do.
