Haymarket Slideshow 1. Create an audio slideshow by editing the Haymarket soundtrack and music I’ve provided into one audio file (save it as an Mp3). Cut all the repetitive information, coughs etc. 2. You also may want to add information on your own or create an entirely new audiotrack. You can use the soundbooth on the 2 nd floor to do that. Here is a link to more information about the Haymarket. http://lincolnhaymarket.org/about/events/event/151/ Review the Haymarket photos quickly to determine what you really want in the audio. 3. After you’ve finished your audio track and created an Mp3 file, save it to your folder in Big File Cabinet so you can easily find it later. 4. Next edit the Haymarket photos. Open photos in Photoshop. Use the crop tool as needed. You can also adjust levels for contrast and toning. If you can’t remember how to use Photoshop, click here for a brief tutorial. < http://www.jtoolkit.com/photojournalism/ssphoto1.html> 5. After you’ve edited your photo, go to image size. Make sure you’ve set the resolution at 72. If you set the pixel width, the height will adjust automatically. Horizontal photos on NewsNet should be set at 649 pixels wide. Make sure you have constrain proportions checked. The height will be set automatically once you type in the width. You also should check resample image. Bicubic (as shown below) is best for reducing Web images.

Haymarket Slideshow

1. Create an audio slideshow by editing the Haymarket soundtrack and music I’ve provided into one audio file (save it as an Mp3). Cut all the repetitive information, coughs etc.

2. You also may want to add information on your own or create an entirely new audiotrack. You can use the soundbooth on the 2nd floor to do that. Here is a link to more information about the Haymarket.http://lincolnhaymarket.org/about/events/event/151/Review the Haymarket photos quickly to determine what you really want in the audio.

< http://www.jtoolkit.com/photojournalism/ssphoto1.html>

6. Open the File menu and select Save As. Give your edited photo a sensible, recognizable filename with NO SPACES and NO PUNCTUATION. (Be careful: NEVER overwrite your original photo file!) Make sure you are saving in Format: JPEG (JPG). Pay close attention to WHERE you are saving your file. Then ... click Save.

7. When you save as JPEG, Photoshop will ask you for a Quality setting. High quality makes a larger file size -- and a slower download for your viewers online. But Soundslides will compress these JPEGs during import, so you should use a HIGH setting for photos in Soundslides.

8. Open Soundslides Plus on the NewsNet server. Click on create a new project. Name and save it where you can find it again (on your desktop) or in your big file folder.

9. Use the custom settings. For output, use 649 wide and 390 high. Upload your jpeg files and your audio file.

10. Once everything is loaded, adjust the timing of the slides. When you do the real assignment, make sure you’ve matched the audio with the photos.

11. Click on template and de-select show header.

12. If you need to re-edit your audio, you can delete your audio and re-import by clicking on audio. You must edit your audio in Audacity (Or audition). You cannot edit audio in Soundslides.13. You can add lower third titles under audio if needed. You are more likely to need this for your actual slideshow assignment. 14. Finally, when you’re done you can Save the project and hit the “export”

button. You will see all the files that are in the publish_to_web folder. You will need to copy this folder and rename it. If we were publishing this on the NewsNet site, you would need to be able to move this folder and know how to find it. More on that later when we discuss uploading to NewsNetNebraska.

15. For this assignment, put your publish to web folder in your Big File cabinet folder and rename it with your lastname i.e. Bullardhaymarket so I can revie them.
