A WORD FROM MRS. JOHNSTON This week in Morning Prayer we have been talking about the virtue of Responsibility. We read a short story about how important it is to make right decisions and having the strength to tell friends “NO” when we are being asked to do something that we know is wrong and being able to walk away. We have talked about the importance of completing our homework and bringing it back to school the next day and getting it handed into the teacher. We talked about making sure that when we have something that goes home that needs to be returned that we are being responsible when we bring them back the next day. Responsibility is fulfilling one’s just duties; accepting the consequences of one’s words and actions, intentional and unintentional. For example, completing tasks, being responsible for homework, duties, etc.; admit when you are wrong or when you have done something wrong. Wow! What a beautiful week. We had our 5-8 grade students complete a service project and we had the spiritually uplifting gift of celebrating Mass with all the schools in the Diocese of Kalamazoo. Our 5 th , 6 th , 7 th and 8 th grade students answered God’s call of being responsible when they spent 2 hours of their time packing food for starving children in Haiti. We were able to participate in a service project, Feed My Starving Children. There were 300 workers that helped at the Shipshewana Conference Center on September 10 th from 12:00pm-2:00pm and our students, together with the volunteers were able to pack enough food for 221 children for one year. They packed 80,665 bags of food during this 2 hour time block. We are so excited that we had this beautiful opportunity to help make a difference and do God’s work. A big thank you to so many of our parents being willing to come and accompany us on this service project.

A WORD FROM MRS. JOHNSTON

On Wendesday, 9/11, as a school family we gathered at the Flag for Morning Prayer. We remembered all those that were killed in one of the plane crashes and all those who are mourning a loved one from the 9/11 terrorist attacks. We also talked about how our Country has had the guiding hand of God and how we have been resilient with His love, grace and forgiveness. Let us remember all those effected by this awful tragedy and remember our Government, our Military Men and Women who are keeping us safe.

On Thursday the students in grades K-8 traveled to Wing Stadium in Kalamazoo and celebrated Mass with all the schools in the Diocese. You could absolutely feel the Holy Spirit during Mass with over 3000 students being present together. What a beautiful opportunity for all of our students. We again had many parents who came to help us at Mass. We are so grateful for your help. I cannot wait until next year when we will do this again.

I have been working with the schools in our league to set up Soccer. Unfortunately we only have one other school that has a soccer team this year so we are unable to offer soccer. I apologize that this did not work out. I will attempt to put a meeting together with each of the schools in the league and have a discussion about all the sports that we are going to offer to make sure we will have the opportunity to play before I ask you to fill out forms and before I get the kiddos excited about playing. We will go for Soccer next Fall.

Don’t forget to sell the your raffle tickets. For every 10 tickets you sell your name will go into a drawing to win $1,000. Please take them to work, games on the weekends, Mass, friend’s houses, etc. We need to sell all of our tickets as it is the biggest part of the fundraiser for our school. Together we can make this a success. I hope everyone has a beautiful weekend.Angela
