On September 18, 2020, the Tangipahoa Parish School District made the decision to release all virtual learners back to their home based school. As a result, students in all grade levels will start receiving instruction from teachers at Lucille Nesom Memorial School.

Virtual Parent Expectations: It is the virtual learners parent responsibility to do the following:

● Monitor my student’s grades through Oncourse.● Ensure your child regularly logs into class assignments daily. ● Encourage my student(s) to connect with their teachers in the twice a week zoom

sessions.● Review teacher feedback with my student, and assist my student in implementing the

feedback.● Ensure that my student(s) is (are) moving through the online lessons and assignments

sequentially and thoroughly.● Academic Integrity - ensure students refrain from plagiarism and cheating when taking

graded tests and assignments. ● Make the teachers and academic support staff aware of any issues impacting student

Performance (ie. sickness, computer issues, etc).● Read and respond to communications from teachers and other academic support staff in

a timely fashion.● Ensure your child attends in uniform Face to Face meetings, conferences, and/or

assessments.● Give teachers 24 hours to respond to emails and concerns.● Technology issues (chromebook) and student login information contact

[email protected] ● 504 Concerns contact - [email protected]● Special Education Concerns contact: [email protected] or

[email protected] ● Contact Samantha Austin (principal) if you would like to change learning platforms from

virtual to traditional at [email protected].

Moving forward, I understand that fulfilling my role as a virtual learner parent is vitally important to the success of my student within this learning platform, and agree to fulfill the above responsibilities to the best of my ability. In the event that a parent or guardian cannot adequately fulfil the role of the virtual parent, students will be required to return to the traditional learning environment.

Virtual Student Expectations

Virtual learning is a commitment between the parent, student, and the teacher. Majority of virtual lessons will be uploaded to the child’s Google Classroom and/or Oncourse Classroom (see the chart for more information). It is the virtual parent and child’s responsibility to ensure assignments are completed in a timely manner and communication is kept with the teacher.

Daily AttendanceStudents are expected to log on to Google Classroom/Oncourse Classroom daily to complete assignments. Attendance will be taken by students logging into Oncourse to “check in” through the attendance tab.Attendance statement: By typing my name, this indicates my attendance for today and my acknowledgment of my daily assignments. Students must type in their name to verify their attendance daily by 9:00 a.m. every morning. Failure to “check in” will result in your child being counted absent for the day regardless if they completed assignments. Those students who are habitually absent, will be turned over to the TPSS Truancy Office. Parents, please note teachers will have one week to update attendance should there be any attendance discrepancies throughout the week. When reporting an absence, email [email protected] (secretary) and your child’s teacher, and [email protected] (Nesom Truancy Designee) a picture of the child’s excuse. Virtual Student Behavior Discipline procedures and TPSS policies will be the same for virtual learners. When attending LIVE lessons, students should not distract traditional learners in the classroom or cause behavioral problems that prevent learning from occurring. Students will be removed from the virtual LIVE lesson when their behavior is not conducive to the learning environment. Parents will receive an email notification of their removal from the class session. If the student continues to be a distraction, a parent conference will be scheduled and the student will be required to return back to the traditional classroom setting.

Virtual Student AttireVirtual students are not required to wear school uniforms during LIVE instruction. However, they are required to be neatly groomed and fully clothed. Students will adhere to the TPSS dress code policy by refraining from wearing bonnets, bandannas, sun glasses, pajamas, and clothing that distracts the learning environment (political references, profanity, etc.).

Virtual Learning EnvironmentStudents should treat LIVE virtual learning time as regular school time. Toys and items that distract the learning environment should be removed from camera view. Please remember that

Page 5:  · Web viewMath intervention for Kindergarten through 7th grade students -Math intervention for 8th grade students -typing agent for 6th grade students - see videos on how to access

teachers and staff are mandated reporters. Therefore, if there are any items in your home or situations that occur during LIVE instruction, teachers are required to report this information to DCFS or TPSS Office of Child Welfare and Attendance. As a result, we ask that you remove any toy weapons and/or any offensive paraphernalia out of the camera’s view during virtual learning instructional time and refrain from using profanity (cursing) or physically disciplining (hitting, whipping, etc.) your child while he or she is attending LIVE sessions. In additional, parents are welcomed to assist students during instructional time. However, during LIVE instruction, parents or guardians should not be in the camera’s view.

Student Work plans Teachers will create a weekly schedule to assist parents and students with completing assignments and keeping up with due dates. The work plan will list daily assignments and due dates. Student work plans will be sent to student emails and to the parents through email and/or Dojo and/or Remind App.

Daily Instruction Students will receive instruction through scheduled LIVE zoom class time with uploaded recording within 24 hours of LIVE lesson. Teachers will provide feedback 2 days a week during scheduled planning (office hours). Students should have workbooks and homework folders where graded work can be dropped off for grading weekly. Teachers will provide parents with graded classwork and homework for the week through learning “work plans” that will be emailed and/or sent through Gmail, Remind, or Class Dojo. Interventions will be provided through online resources like (Zearn, Headsprout, Mobymax, Edulastic, Khan Academy, Mindplay, etc.)

Virtual Parent and Teacher Communication It is imperative that parents communicate with their child’s teacher. However, teachers will have 24 hours to respond to virtual learner/parents emails, concerns, and requests. Student priority will be given to traditional students in the classroom. Since teachers are teaching and assisting traditional students throughout the day, teachers will not always have the time and means to answer virtual parent questions or concerns immediately. As a result, virtual parents and students will have to schedule conferences and phone calls on Monday and Fridays during their planning periods as needed. Please note parent conferences may be conducted via Zoom or Google Meet.

Page 9:  · Web viewMath intervention for Kindergarten through 7th grade students -Math intervention for 8th grade students -typing agent for 6th grade students - see videos on how to access

Scheduled teacher conferences will cover the following: ● Grades, progress, assignments - if a student is failing a class, the teacher will reach out to

the parent or guardian to review misconceptions. If there are severe concerns, learning platform options will be reviewed. If the student is not successful with the virtual learning platform, they will be required to return back to the traditional setting.

Scheduled teacher conferences will NOT cover the following: ● Student log in or technology issues -contact [email protected]● Absences/Student Excuses -contact [email protected]
