A

Peacock Butterfly

As you approach Green Lane there is a sign part of Brenda parker Way, Green Lane is a made-up track leading onto a grass track used by the farm, this part is an easy-going path with elevated views across crops and woodlands. In June July many species of butterflies can be seen. There are many Hazel bushes and trees. Continue along green Lane to the main road, cross over ahead of you is London Lane (Benda Parker Way).

London Lane is a very pleasant easy walk through Spencefield Copse a gradual downhill gradient through a mixed tree wood, this takes you to Bartlett’s Down, on the way you may encounter pheasants and hear Woodpeckers drilling into the decaying trees.

On reaching the main road carry on straight ahead for two hundred yards, turn left on the grass track to Bartlett’s Down, along this track you get a beautiful view of the Down and you may spot birds of prey, the Buzzard and Red Kite. On reaching the end of Bartlett’s Down turn right onto a makeup vehicular track, after one hundred yards turn left, the two farm buildings you now see are all associated with pheasant shooting a very popular activity in the area. The sweet corn you may see is all part of the rearing of the pheasants.

Bartlett’s Down

From here on the track will start rising, on passing the farm building keep to the left track which leads you uphill through the wood, along this path you may see many butterflies and a diverse variety of wild plants including wild orchids. You will encounter the steepest part of this lovely walk, you will come to a sign post part way up this rise keep straight on to the end of the wood. Throughout this wood there is a lot of coppicing, these are trees cut back to stimulate the growth of braches used by the Bodgers who use the material for making fencing panels, and the pinning sticks for Thatchers.

On reaching the end of the wood go onwards to the corner of the field turn left and carry on to the road here turn right follow the road into Faccombe and the Jack Russell.
