FESTIVAL OPEN CALL
Would you like to perform at B-SIDE Hip-Hop festival?
23 - 25 September 2016Hip-Hop will be taking over Southside’s public places and theatre spaces, with a range of workshops, talks, pop-up performances, film, street dance and b-boy/b-girl battles, spoken word, DJs/VJs and graffiti artists. Dance Battles will see cash prizes up for grabs as the Hippodrome and The Old Rep throw open their doors for a celebration of all things Hip-Hop.
B-SIDE Festival brings together the city region’s many hip-hop talents such as celebrated local companies and artists Break Mission, Dance Nuvo, Juice Aleem, and Mickael Marso Riviere, all supported by Birmingham Hippodrome and Southside Producers at The Old Rep.
There are several ways for you to be involved – outlined below.
Do you have a Hip-Hop inspired performance? Are you based in the West Midlands region? Will you have a performance that will be rehearsed and ready for 24 Sept 2016? Is the content suitable for performance in a public space without causing offence? Do you understand that no fees or expenses are paid to take part in this opportunity?

PERFORMANCE OPPORTUNITY: KEY DETAILS
Date: Saturday 24 September Location: New Street Station and John Lewis
Performances on the New Street Station Concourse and outside on New Street Station Square (near All Bar One) allow for larger dance performances or with a big visual impact.
John Lewis will be best for pop-up performances of solos or duets of dance, music, laid-back DJs or spoken word.
Please indicate in the grid, the stage where you feel your performance will work best (see the notes below) and ALL time slots you could be available to perform. We will do our best to accommodate all requests, but will need to consider the balance of the programme on each stage.
All performances must have some link to or inspiration from Hip-Hop and be a maximum of 15 minutes long.

Brief for John Lewis PerformancesSmall PA. Individual or duo performances. Looking for spoken word, singers, individual breakers and laid back DJs, able to perform on the third floor, in a small space.
Brief for New Street Station Concourse PerformancesLarger scale performances with impact. Music through a PA. Concrete Floor. Street Dance / Breakin’ Battles and a new performance from Frantic Assembly will also happen here.
New Street Station Square PerformancesSame as above but outdoors. Wet weather contingency is for performances to be rolled into the inside timetable.
There will also be a limited number of slots to perform in The Hippodrome foyers on Sunday 25 September.
