Jenkins/Williams 2016-2017 September 26, 2016 READING We will finish “Dexter the Tough” this week. After finishing the novel, we will take an AR test in order to receive some points. Then, we will also take a written test to make sure the students understood what happened in the book (reading comprehension). Lastly, we’ll go over a few additional skills like characterization and cause/effect. MATH We will continue reviewing skills/concepts from Chapters 1 and 2. This includes place value and many different multiplication skills. We are doing this in order to help students better understand things like renaming numbers, rounding, subtracting with middle zeroes, and more. A lot of students need help with word problems. They are difficult because some of the students are struggle with reading comprehension, thus making it hard for them to understand HOW to solve the problems. We believe the best way to improve in this area is to practice, practice, practice! WRITING Students will finish a writing project about a time when they felt guilty. This directly relates to what Dexter from “Dexter the Tough” is going through. Also, it helps students understand the writing Our school is hosting a “Book Parade” on Thursday, September 29 th . I’ve only heard back from one parent about this event, and I really need more students to attend.
