Kitty Pendelton Martin Mt. Airy, NC It is so wonderful to know we can all be together once again. I know the ones involved with getting the reunion together have been hard at work. Most of my life I have taught private piano lessons and been a church organist. I lived in Greensboro for 3 years in my younger days and moved back to Mount Airy in 1980. At that time, I married Larry Martin, a North Surry 1966 graduate. We blended our family of 3 girls together. We sent them to MAHS, although we lived in the county. Two of them were avid ball players and one a cheerleader. I went back to college and graduated in 2015 with a Bachelor’s degree in music and a two year certificate toward a Master’s degree. Several months later Larry died. It is now just me and 2 dogs. I have a compilation of some memories of MAHS. First of all, I grew up in a neighborhood of people that were like family. Mark Richard was one of them. We rode pedal cars, played Cowboys and Indians, went to kindergarten together and graduated from high school together. Barbara Jones started a craze in high school. She would be driving along (not a major highway) get out of the car and dance to "Jimmy Mac." During my Junior prom, as Mrs. Sydnor was keeping watch, Don rode up on his motorcycle as I was getting in my little, blue Corvair which was unsafe at any speed. For once I was not leaving with him.

It is so wonderful to know we can all be together once again.

One Friday at lunch time, I was headed to a beauty shop for a hairdo. Meanwhile, my mother got a call that I was to be in the office first thing Monday morning. Along with others, I have memories of being on a golf course near Patty Easley's house in the middle of the night. I remember riding with Gray Simmons to school in Joel Porter’s sports car. I was the Bear for MAHS. This character came with a terry cloth suit with feet. It was made by Spencer’s Mill.

Coach Alex Gibbs was a teacher that I will remember as being an inspiration to me and many other students.

Another memory comes to mind of being with Barbara in her car while taking Banky home. Barbara pulled up into Banky's carport and said "How is this for curb service?" We went right over the edge of concrete just enough to get the car stuck. What happened after that is hazy, but ask Barbara if she remembers it. Later it was funny but not so much at the time.
