Writer’s Workshop: Ask your child: I put the final touches on my nomination piece for my favorite opinion
book! I wrote my opinions about my favorite book to try and convince judges the book deserves an award! I used evidence from the book and quotes from the book to support my opinions! Ask me what award I think my book deserves! I created this award and placed it on my nomination.
During Writer’s Workshop I gave “shout-outs” to my classmates to celebrate their accomplishments! Wow…what fine writers are in Room A2!
I shared my nomination with my classmates using Flipgrid. Ask me about Flipgrid. I added books to a list for summer reading based on my classmate’s recommendations.
Reader’s Workshop
Ask your child: I am learning how to study a
character’s actions throughout the course of the story. I read a book and completed a book project focusing on the character’s actions.
I used nonfiction text features as I read more books on the atmosphere and weather. I used what I have learned in the weather unit and wrote a weather forecast for one day. Then with my group I used an app on the iPad called clips and created a weather forecast for a week!
Ask me who I learned about as my classmates presented their posters on famous people. What contribution did these people make to our world? Ask me about the creative puppets and placing them in chronological order on a living timeline!
I am writing my lines for the Biography Celebration trying to capture the most important information I learned during the Biography Unit. I need to memorize my lines so I am ready for the class Celebration of Famous People on April 26th at 10AM.

Math Workshop: Ask your child: Ask me to tell you about the markers on the April calendar grid.
This month I am learning more about fractions of a set and fractions of a whole! As me to tell you what I know about fractions!
I listened to the story One Hundred Ants and then modeled division strategies as I divided groups of ants into equal groups.
I cut paper strips into halves, thirds, fourths and compared these pieces. Ask me how many fourths are equal to a half. Using my strips, I played a fraction game looking for less than, greater than and equivalent fraction pieces.
I continue to work on solving story problems using a strategy I understand and can explain. I need to write an equation before I solve the problem. Ask me to solve 456 + 234 and using two different strategies I understand. Ask me to do the same with 671 – 345. Using two strategies helps me to check the problem I am solving.
