At first little known, ignored and even scoffed at, today what is referred to as the Goetheanum Impulse can be seen throughout the world as a major influence in organic architecture and innovative building techniques, sculptural forms and graphic design, painting styles and lazure color-work, stage production and creative eurythmic choreography, and more. An illustrated lecture by Van James

One hundred years ago, at the beginning of the 20th century and parallel to the onset of Modernism, a new and spiritual scientific artform took root in central Europe. The Goetheanum Impulse is a renewal of the arts and crafts movement but with an even deeper connection to the spiritual striving of what makes a human being truly human. This illustrated talk and discussion will look into the early beginnings of this impulse, how it developed and spread, and where it is today as an ever-evolving inspiration to individual artists and cultural communities all over the world.

There will be a focus on the First Goetheaum architecture, the Planetary Seals, Columns, and Capitals, the Colored Glass Windows and the Cupola Paintings. Also, the Second Goetheanum as Total Work of Art, the Representative of Humanity, the Goetheaum Environment Today, and the Goetheanum Impulse as it has spread throughout the world will be described through pictures.

“The Goetheanum building…was in itself an education for the vision of karma.” —Rudolf Steiner
