What does the spelling list look like?
When will my child receive a list?
We test every other week. Your student will get a list attached on the spelling log every other Monday with homework.
When do they test? The second week is test week. We test and study with students during small groups. This could happen
any day Monday thru Friday.
Why does my child have the same list again?
If your child did not pass during test week with a 80% or higher they will stay on the list for another two weeks.
How will my child be tested?1. If your child is focusing on the list with middle sounds or blends like
these…
They will only be responsible for letter they are listening for. For example when the teacher gives the word bus they will only have to write down the letter u.
2. If your child has full words on their lists they could be tested on a few or all of their words, and are to spell them correctly with 80% or better.
3. If your child is working on 1-2 letters they will be asked to write the letter (upper and lower case) recognize the pictures that start with the letter sound and circle it find and circle the letters our of a group of different letters
What do the sorts look like? Sorts should be cut out first and placed in their patterns/ sounds. Here are some examples of the word
sorts.
There are also the speed sort, word/letter sort and blind sort that your child can work on for homework or extra
The sort instructions says to record it in a journal should I
get my kid one at home? In class we do this in our journals however it is not required at home. This can easily be done on a sheet
of paper it is your choice.
Which teacher do I contact for any further questions about my
child’s spelling list? Mrs. Rodriguez the writing teacher
