The MethodistChurch

A plea from the Sowerby Stewards – please prayerfully consider…Sowerby Methodist Church has not yet found any new stewards. Not so long ago we had 6, but if no-one comes forward we will be down to 3 from September. The three continuing stewards are concerned that they will not be able to cover every Sunday if we do not have at least four stewards. Some churches have introduced the role of ‘vestry steward’ – someone who carries out the Sunday service duties, but without taking on the other duties of the stewards. Would you be prepared to consider being a vestry steward if you do not feel able to become a full steward, either by going on the regular rota or filling in ‘as and when’? Ideally, we need at least one new steward, but it would help the stewards greatly if we at least knew there were people we could call on to help out on a Sunday if needed.

Welcome service for Revd Denise Williamson Thursday 30th August at 7pm at St James Green, Thirsk

The service will be led by Revd Leslie Newton, Chair of the District, and there will be opportunity to chat over coffee after the service. We would be grateful for any volunteers to help. Any donations of cakes could be brought on the evening.

Prayer Focus…Do not look forward to the changes and chances of this life in fear;Rather look to them full of hope that, as they arise, God will deliver you out of them. He has kept you hitherto.Hold fast to His dear hand, and He will lead you safely through all things, and, when you cannot stand, He will bear you in His arms.

Francis De Sales (included recently in a service led by the Circuit Worship Team)

Service to Commemorate the Battle of the Standard 1138. Sun Aug 26th There will be an open–air service at 3pm on Brompton village green by St Thomas’s Church (in the church if wet weather) accompanied by the Salvation Army Band of the Darlington Corps. This will be followed by tea served in the Methodist Church. Please bring your own garden chairs. Singers needed!

Sowerby Flower Rota

There is a new flower rota, and Jan would be grateful for some offers of help to fill the ‘gaps’. If you could donate money for flowers, please have a word with Jan, or add your name in one of the spaces on the rota in the Sowerby Church Foyer.

Thank you…Rosalie Bowman is backhome again and expressesthanks for the beautiful flowers brought to her last week. They have been enjoyed by all her visitors too.
