Education and Communications Intern Job Description About this role: Sound and Music is an arts organisation and the national charity for new music, with international links. We are unique in having a UK-wide remit for the development of artists, audiences and education and have a thriving, diverse and growing education programme, delivering high quality projects of national and strategic importance. Sound and Music is looking for an individual with a passion for communication, an interest in education and sound digital skills to help us to deliver these activities and fulfil our ambitions. You will work across the education programme and be involved in supporting projects, communications, insight gathering, research and general administration. Sound and Music has a supportive ethos and the intern will be line- managed by the Head of Education, supported by the Head of Digital, Marketing and Communications and the wider marketing team. As a small organisation with fewer than 20 employees, any intern joining us will gain valuable insight into how the organisation operates, work closely with colleagues from all programme areas and contribute to the daily team operations. This is a great opportunity for anyone who is interested in working in this field, in an arts organisation or a charity to gain significant experience and skills. You will work across the education programme and be involved in supporting projects, communications, insight gathering, research and general administration. Duration of internship: 6 months Probation period: 1 month. Line management/supervision: Weekly 1-2-1s with the Head of Education Hours: 3 or 4 days/week (flexible depending on the circumstances of the selected applicant),

10am – 5pm including 1 paid hour for lunch and holiday allowance Pay: £7.38/hour

Skills, experience and attributes:Sound and Music is looking for a person with the following attributes, skills and experience:

Experience: Experience working with children/young people (paid or voluntary) Experience working with music, sound or art (paid or voluntary) Experience communicating with a range of people including young people, their parents and

professional composers/musicians Experience of using and engaging with audiences on digital platforms

Skills: Excellent written and spoken English Strong attention to detail Strong digital capabilities including Social Media, Wordpress and Google Analytics Ability to use a range of software including Excel, Outlook and Word

Attributes: Ability to be organised and methodical in their work Ability to deal with conflicting priorities Enthusiasm for arts, music and culture Friendly and approachable Reliable and punctual

The role is subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.

Outline of responsibilities:The internship will support the education and communications work of Sound and Music, working with the Head of Education and wider team members on general administration duties and our programmes and activities.

During the internship, you can expect to be involved in a range of work including: Promoting our Summer School for young composers and creative musicians Handling enquiries and processing applications to the Summer School Supporting schools who sign up for Minute of Listening Support for the creation of new content for Minute of Listening Updating content on various public-facing platforms Managing and scheduling content on social media
