SHENZHEN(Chinese name:深圳; shēnzhèn) is located in the southern portion of the Guangdong Province, on the eastern shore of the Pearl River Delta. Neighboring the Pearl River Delta and Hong Kong, Shenzhen's location gives it a

geographical advantage for economic development. In 1980, the first Special Economic Zone of China was built in this city. From then on, the city becomes a highlight of China, one known for its rapid economic growth.

More than thirty years ago, it just was a small fishing village called Bao'an County. In 1979, it was renamed Shenzhen City. When the Special Economic Zone was built, the city was divided into six zones, four of which are located in the Special Economic Zone.

Each year, more and more people come to Shenzhen to try to find employment. As a result, the city has become increasingly crowded. The local government has recently made city-wide environmental improvements in an effort to combat problems caused by overpopulation. In recognition for these improvements, the city was awarded the Garden City Award in 2000.METEN ENGLISH—Anna MAO

ClimateDue to its subtropical Climate, Shenzhen weather is mild with plenty of sunshine and rainfall all year round. Summer in this city usually lasts for as long as 6 months, but without being overly hot. In comparison, winter is very short and not cold at all.

With an average temperature of 22  C (72  F) on average, Shenzhen has a long mild summer and short relatively warm winter, which makes the city a year-round travel destination. Additionally, the China Hi-Tech Fair is held there from the 12th to the 17th of October every year. It is always advisable to make reservations well in advance of your visit to the city as the area is particularly busy during this time.

Even so, there are not too many special souvenirs for visitors to take home. But don't be disappointed, as the city will redeem its visitors in other ways. As a fast developing metropolis, it has a good selection of department stores and shopping centers, where everything from basic commodities to high-quality brands can be found. Actually, this is an ideal destination for those who are addicted to shopping. It is easy for you to find a place to do some shopping since Shenzhen is divided distinctly into several zones of shopping centers. It is no wonder that Dongmen Pedestrian Street is the No.1 shopping center of the city. Various kinds of shops, restaurants and cinemas are open here. In Hua Qiang Bei you will find numerous electrical products. The famous

Women's World, which is an ideal place for purchasing clothing, is also located here. Other shopping zones like Nanshan, Renmin Nan and Shen Nan Zhong respectively have their own characteristics. Apart from these, the Chinese and English Street located in Yantian District attracts lots of visitors since it is under the domination of both Shenzhen and Hong Kong. What's more, this is also a tax-free street.
