Branding will be the first activity that you will be required to complete. The due dates for the two tasks you are required to complete will be:

Instructions:

This activity usually takes 3 to 4 hours to complete (approximately 4 lessons in school) as there is quite a bit of research that needs to be carried out.

This is a big project that is meant to be fun so please go at your own pace! I am hoping that you complete it before Friday, 29th May 2020 which gives you 4 weeks.

There are two tasks to complete:

o Task 1 involves researching an existing brand.

o Task 2 involves you creating your own ‘sweet treats’ brand.

You can present your tasks in any format, as long as you meet all the criteria for each task. How you present it is up to you. So have fun!

Below is a link of ‘72 ways’ a project can be presented, why not have a look and see if any of them may interest you or even use a combination of ways. Be creative and try think ‘out the box’ - just like a Marketing Department in an organisation where they have to come up with an idea to pitch and promote their product or service.

BrandingA brand normally has a logo or slogan which sets it apart from its rival. Nike and Adidas are a good example!

Can you think of any other well known brands?

Task 1: - Brand investigation (due 15th May 2020)

Your first task is to investigate an existing brand. Choose any brand that you can think of (this can be a food brand, sports brand, clothing band, anything you want). You will need to conduct some internet research to find out more information about the brand.

You will need to present your findings in any format that you choose and it should include the following:

Your chosen brand What is the name of the brand you have chosen? Explain why you have chosen that brand to research.

Background informationYou will need to provide some background information about your chosen brand. Tip: Wikipedia can sometimes be helpful as they have lots of useful information of the history of companies and their brands. For example:

Which year was your chosen brand was created? Who created the brand? Which country did the brand originated from? How did the brand become popular? How many countries is the brand sold in? Name at least three of them or provide a

world map showing where that brand is sold. What is the brand slogan? Provide an image of the brand

Other useful informationInclude some other useful information about your chosen brand:

Where is the brand sold (certain shops, online, etc)? What is the average price for your brand? Explain how the company expanded and grew to the size it is today. Do you think it is a successful brand? If so, explain why

Advertising of your chosen brand What types of advertising does your brand use? For example, TV ads, social media

(list them) Describe their adverts. Copy an image of the advertisement or provide a link to the

advertisement)

Celebrity endorsementA lot of brands use celebrity endorsement. This is when a business pays a celebrity to promote their products or services.

What celebrity has your chosen brand use? Why do you think that celebrities are used? If there is no celebrity used for that brand, who do

you think would be a good match for your chosen brand?

Task 2: Creating your own brand (due 29th May 2020)

Teachers LOVE chocolate / sweets / cakes! We LOVE everything sweet, we are not too fussy!! I would like you to invent a new sweet treat for us. This could be a new chocolate, cake or sweet. Use the following information to help you create your brand. Remember it is up to you how you present your product.

Name of product What is the name of your new sweet treat? Explain how you came up with name.

Your product Describe your new product in as much detail as you can. How did you come up with this idea?

USP USP may be a term that you have not heard before. A USP is a ‘unique selling point’. A unique selling point is what sets you apart from your competitors.

What do you think your USP is? Why are you different from others?

CompetitorsA competitor is a company that sells similar products to your product.

Write down as many competitors that you can think of.

PlaceWhen you think of a place to sell your product to need to consider transport links, suppliers, competitors, where your customers are, etc.

Where will you sell your new sweet treat and why? Would you sell your products online or in shops? Provide advantages and

disadvantages of your choice.

PricePrice is very important, if a product is too cheap customers may think the quality may be of poor quality, if it is too expensive they may decide to go with your competitor for a similar type product that is cheaper than your product. Getting the price right is very important for any business.

How much would you sell your product for? Explain how you came up with this price.

PromotionBusinesses need to make sure customers are aware of their product and the way they do is by promotion. Research different types of promotional methods a business may use to market their products.

List the types of promotional methods you will use for your product.

Explain why you have chosen that particular method of advertising.

Celebrity EndorsementWill you have a celebrity to endorse your product? If so:

Who will you choose? Explain why you chose that particular celebrity to promote your brand. You could provide an image of that celebrity.

LogoLogo’s are a small design / image that a business uses to set themselves apart from their competitors.

What would your logo for your sweet treat look like? You can draw your logo, then take a photo of it and paste the image on your choice of

presentation.

SloganA slogan is a catchphrase that a business will use to set themselves apart from their competitors.
