Before every phonics session we would do in a morning we would always discuss the day of the week and the weather.
Days of the week song:

When saying the day of the week emphasis the first letter of the sound.
What is the weather today
Ask your child to look out the window and tell you what the weather is doing.
There are weather charts on www.twinkl.com that we used everyday.
Listening Walk Take your child out into the garden or on your walk. Ask what sounds
can they hear. Are they loud or quiet sounds? Will they hear different
sounds outside to inside?Nursery Rhymes At nursery we use a singing bag
which has different props for different nursery rhmes (i.e. bus wheels on the bus). Perhaps you
could make your own version of this so your child can choose different
nursery rhymes to sing. Tapping Sticks Can you find some sticks outside or
inside to use as special tapping sticks. Can you explore different sounds outside and inside, what
does it sound like on a door, a fence, on the ground etc.
Sound Box Have an empty box and place some noisy materials in there, i.e. some
keys, a crisp packet, a squeaky toy, velcro etc. Hide these in the box so your child cannot see. Make sounds
with the objects, can your child guess the sound?
Sound Lotto Lots of different varieties on Youtube can your child guess what the sound
is?
