MINIUMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Associate’s degree, 2 years technical training, or completion of undergraduate major core coursework in behavioral science, social science, early childhood development, education or related field.

CLASSIFICATION: Social Services Worker I, Pay Range 4 - $15.05 to $18.80 per hour based on experience

DUTIES: Primary duties include a wide range of support activities which include providing transportation, supervising/monitoring parent/child visitation, completing relative search functions, completing genograms, file mining, sending correspondence to relatives, searching for out of home care providers for youth, attending meetings, determining eligibility for programs within the social services department, and other assistance as needed for the social services department.

Assist caseworkers who maintain caseloads of children/families who have entered foster care or who are under protective supervision. Complete placement searches for children. Complete family search activities, including contacting relatives in person, by phone, or via written correspondence. Complete home evaluations as needed. Maintain contact with assigned caseworker, Juvenile Court, community providers, extended family, friends, and informal supports of the family. Participates in legal actions, which includes testifying in Court as necessary. Answers and returns phone calls from consumers and colleagues.

Responds to individuals inquiring about foster care, adoption, and kinship care. Provides information to individuals inquiring about assistance in obtaining needed services. Refers, coordinates, and provides transportation for parental or sibling visitation for youth placed out of home. Determines eligibility for various social services programs as needed.

 Attends Social Services related training, conferences and other educational programs as required for position. All other duties as assigned.

This position may be assigned after hour assignments from supervisor due to short staffing or emergencies which would require transportation for immediate response. Must be able to move quickly and easily in tight places. Employee may come in contact with contagious diseases from clients both in house and doing home visits. Could be subjected to unclean and unsanitary conditions when doing home visits, with a possibility of blood borne pathogens.

Must have a valid Ohio Driver’s License. Could be required to lift a maximum of 50 lbs. during an emergency situation.

Job Duties:

Job duties include the following:1. Answer and return phone calls from consumers and colleagues 2. Document all contacts that have been made with consumers and collateral contacts3. Remain up to date on all rules and timeline requirements for specific assigned duties 4. Assist caseworkers with relative search functions, including file mining, sending correspondence, and

documentation of relative searches 5. Assist caseworkers with information about formal and informal community supports for youth and

families 6. Develop Genograms for youth in out of home care7. Conduct home evaluations for prospective kinship homes 8. Refer consumers for other services as needed9. Prepare for and attend any court hearings relevant to assigned cases/support activities10. Arrange, coordinate, and supervise visitation when indicated11. Complete visitation referrals when needed 12. Provide and/or assist in arranging transportation for consumers as needed13. Provide strong advocacy for consumers14. Maintain positive relationships with other community service providers15. Attend required trainings to keep abreast of the developments in the field16. Attend other meetings as needed (e.g. FCFC wraparound, etc.)17. Always keep families involved in the decision-making process regarding their children, keeping them

actively part of school, medical and therapeutic decisions as they are working case plan goals18. Assist with timely school enrollment for children who are in substitute care 19. Provide timely data entry to enable submission of required reports20. Assist with general inquiries about adoption and foster care by answering questions, providing

information, sending out packets and providing information on public and private foster care agencies21. Assist other caseworkers with scanning case files and case related documents into agency electronic

filing systems22. Assist caseworkers in locating placement for children entering agency custody or currently in agency

custody23. Identify backup placement options for youth in out of home care 24. Develop and maintain professional rapport with foster care licensing agencies 25. Assist caseworkers in the maintenance of adoption website profiles and the child specific recruitment of

adoptive homes for children in permanent custody of the agency 26. Determine eligibility, facilitate services and fiscally monitor Post Adoption Special Service Subsidies

(PASSS)27. Attend SARs as a third-party neutral agency representative 28. Schedule and assist in facilitating family team meetings (FTM), when needed 29. Complete searches of Justiceweb (CJIS), criminal courts with online search functions, and SACWIS for

proposed safety plan responsible parties30. Assist caseworkers with required fingerprint background checks (FBI/BCII) when the clerical specialist

is unavailable

Family In Need of Services (FINS)1. Make face to face contact and assess needs for all FINS cases assigned2. Educate clients about community resources available3. Connect clients to community resources4. Make referrals to community resources as indicated
