Wider Curriculum Choice GridAs well as completing a daily maths, English, spelling and reading task, we have put together a selection of different topic activities for you to complete at your leisure. We realise this is a busy time and so most of these do not require written work but instead are discussion and interaction based.

Let’s Get Physical! (PE)

Use a bean bag/different sized balls to throw at different

targets outside.

Choose a spot to place an object as your target.

Use a rope or similar to put your feet behind.

Aim the ball at the target, thinking about where

your hand leaves the ball. If you can hit the target

three times, move the target further away (about a metre each

time).

I can throw with accuracy and coordination to targets set at different distances.

Let’s Explore!(Geography)

Make your own map of a settlement of your choice (hamlet, village, town or

city). The website below this grid is a good starting

point.

I can describe types of settlements in modern Britain: villages, towns, cities.

Let’s Investigate!

(Science)

Use a mirror to locate the three main types of teeth:

1. Incisors

2. Canines

3. Molars

Write what the functions are of each type of tooth and try

your best to draw them.

I can identify the different types of teeth in humans and their simple

functions.

Maths Challenge! Can you solve the problems of

the day?

Let’s Get Arty!

(Art)

Think back to when we studied Henry Moore and look at some images of

his work online. Can you describe the content,

tone, line, medium and mood Moore has created

in his art?

I can describe some of the key ideas and techniques used by artists that I

have studied.

Let’s Get Computing!

(Computing)

Make your own e-safety poster based on the SMART

rules:

S - Stay Safe, M - Don't Meet Up, A - Accepting Files,

R - Reliable? T - Tell Someone.

I understand some of the risks in using the web.

The Coming of the Iron Man

The Iron Man stood on the brink of the cliffTall as a house, all rigid and stiff.

His great iron head turned left then rightAs he stood on the cliff in the dark of night.His headlamp eyes searched far and wide.His iron ears listened to the swell of the tide.

Where he had come from, no-one knowsBut there on the cliff where the seagulls rose,The Iron Man stood with the wind in his face.Then he lifted a foot and stepped out into space.

Crashing...crashing...thrown aboutTill his legs fell off and his eyes fell out.

Scattered and battered his body parts layThen silence, silence, till break of day.

Then an eye and a hand in a seagull's nestMoved together to find the rest.A headlamp eye and a crablike handMoving together over the sand.

Bit by bit each piece was foundTill the Iron Man stood and looked around.But still he strode and searched the beachFor an ear that was lost and out of reach.

Was it the sea that had stolen his ear? For the Iron Man turned and showing no fearHe walked in the sea deeper and deeper,Though the water rose where the shore grew steeper.

His eyes blazed red and his eyes blazed greenThen the Iron Man could no more be seen.

Writing – Monday  Read the poem from the Iron Man.  Think about the character described in the poem.  How does he look?  How does he act? How does he move?  Draw the Iron Man and label him with evidence from the text.  Challenge – Think about the events in the poem.  Complete the timeline to show the events as they happen.

Writing – Tuesday

Read through the text again.  Make yourself a key grid and then underline each of the features you have found. Think about similes, repetition, rhyme, questions, adverbs, adjectives.

Can you write a description of the Iron Man thinking about the poem?

Writing – Wednesday

Using your drawing of the Iron Man, think about how you could describe him yourself. Complete a mindmap of your ideas.  Remember to focus on powerful adjectives, adverbs and verbs.

1. Which adjectives could you use to describe how he looks? 2. Which verbs and adverbs could you use to describe how he moves? Have a try at writing your poem of the Iron Man in a similar style to the original poem.

Writing – Thursday  Write your first draft of your poem.  Think about how Brenda Williams has written her poem.  Try to include additional detail about the Iron Man.  Challenge – Add lots of  similes and try to include rhyming links, repetition and questions.

Writing - Friday

Read through your poem again (You could read it to an adult).  Can they help you to make any improvements? Once you are happy with your poem about the Iron Man, write it up neatly. Challenge – Use a thesaurus to improve some of your vocabulary.
