Monday Last week we were learning about some foods people like to eat in the summer and that because of the hot weather people may like to cook and eat outside. We also learned that it is important to stay hydrated which means making sure our bodies have plenty of water. We learned we can get wat from the foods we eat like watermelon, pineapple, and cucumber and by drinking water and juice. Today we are going to learn about some tasty treats that people like to enjoy in summer and that help keep them cool. Ice-cream, ice-pops, and smoothies are great treats that can help keep us cool and hydrated on hot summer days.

Music and Movement: Let’s get our bodies moving https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3mlUjn8dsQ

Pretend: Let’s pretend to have an ice cream shop in the classroom. What other things might we sell at the ice cream shop that taste good and can help keep people hydrated.

Carpet/Block Play: Use blocks to build ice creams that might be able to be sold in the ice cream shop or build an ice cream shop that your people toys can go to visit.

Sensory Play: help students make ice cream in a bag from scratch:

Art: Help students draw or crate a cold treat that they like to eat in the summer (ice cream,

We can make our own ice-pops by freezing our favorite juice with popsicle sticks in them. We can make our own smoothies using fruit and ice.

Book suggestion for class (English):

popsicle, frozen fruit).

Science/discovery: Help students work on put apple juice in a plastic cup with water and stick a plastic spoon in it, then put it in the freezer. Review with students what a freezer is and help them make predications about what will happen to the juice.

Fine Motor/Manipulatives: Use playdough to try to create scoops of ices cream and ice cream cones.

Writing: Trace and write lines horizontal and vertical lines and basic shapes (circles, half circles, squares, triangles, rectangles). Trace letters /Ff and Hh /.

Math: Review counting objects to 10 to tell how many using 1:1 correspondence. Use ice cream cone matt with students to work with students on counting scoops of ice cream to the number on the cone.

Literacy: Books- Sit with your child to look at books. Work on book handling and care, turning pages, attending to 2D images, and attending to a story being read to them. Work on picture identification and what and where questions while looking at books.

Phonics: This week’s letters are / Ff and Hh /. Go over how to make the letter sound and

Play the Bounce Patrol to review the letter sound and some things that start with the

letter: Ff - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gVJQL1E7BFQ

Create a page with 8-12 letters on it and have 4-6 of the letters be the letter /Ff/. Have students use a marker/crayon to color over or circle all the letters.

Tuesday As we have been learning and can feel in the hot air when we go outside the summer sun makes the weather hot. Being too hot can be uncomfortable and unhealthy that is why staying hydrated and eating some foods like ice cream can help people stay cool in the summer. But there are other things people can do to help themselves and the inside of their homes and schools stay cool.

We can turn off lights- Have students turn off the light

Use fans/air conditioners- move in front of the fan or air conditioner with students to feel the cool air

We can drink water- help students get a drink of water.

When we are outside, we can look for place that are in the shade. Shade is created when an object blocks the sun from shining directly

Kitchen/house: It is a hot summer day let’s practice some different ways we can stay cool and play pretend in the kitchen to pick out food that can help you stay cool and hydrated. Remember from last week that we learned about cooking outside and about eating things that do not need to be cooked like sandwiches. Do these things can also help keep the house cooler.

Carpet/Block Play: Use blocks to build a house, apartment building or other things that provide shade or cover from the sun where people toys can stay cool.

Sensory Play: Use different temperature water and ice cubes to review temperature and how the summer feels warm so we can use things like cool water and ice cubes to help us stay cooler in the summer.

Art: Help students decorate and create their own fans.

Wednesday Yesterday we learned about some of the things we can do to help us stay cooler in the summer like using fans/ACs and staying in the shade when outside. Today we are going to learn about summer clothing. The clothes people wear on the hot days in summer can also be a way to help them stay cool.

The clothing we wear in summer when it is hot is very different than the clothing we wear in the winter when it is cold.

What clothing do we wear in summer? – shorts, t-shirts, sandals, hats, sunglasses, dresses, tank tops shoes.

All of these different summer clothes help keep us cool because they cover less of our bodies.

Book suggestion for class (English):

Music and Movement: Let’s get our bodies moving

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JoF_d5sgGgc

Pretend: Let’s pretend to be a weather person and tell people the summer weather and show them what to wear in the summer.

Carpet/Block Play: Use blocks to build clothing stores for the people toys to shop at. Pretend to have them buy different summer outfits. Can use tissue paper to pretend they are different pieces of clothing. Talk about where we get out clothes who do we go shopping with and who buys the clothes we wear.

Sensory Play: Use different temperature water and ice cubes to review temperature and how the summer feels warm so we can use things like cool water and ice cubes to help us stay cooler in the summer.

Art: Help students design a summer outfit on a person cut out.

Science/discovery: Use different temperature water and ice cubes to review temperature and how the summer feels warm so we can use things like cool water and ice cubes to help us stay cooler in the summer.

Fine Motor/Manipulatives: Use clothing and fine motor mat to practice working on buttons and other clothing fasteners.

Writing: Trace and write lines horizontal and vertical lines and basic shapes (circles, half circles, squares, triangles, rectangles). Trace letters /Ff and Hh /.

Math: Work on sorting and counting skills by sorting some different pictures or if at home the actual clothing (short pants, t-shirts, sandals, hats and sunglasses) of summer clothing and counting how many of the different thing we have.

Literacy: Books- Sit with your child to look at books. Work on book handling and care, turning pages, attending to 2D images, and attending to a story being read to them. Work on picture identification and what and where questions while looking at books.

Phonics: Work on identifying/matching skill for this month’s capital letters:

Use letters (Jj, Ss/ Ff, Hh/ Ii, Ee / Bb, Oo / Aa, Rr / Nn, Gg) on flash cards laid out on a table. Then have a bowl of the letters (Jj, Ss/ Ff, Hh/ Ii, Ee / Bb, Oo / Aa, Rr / Nn, Gg) on cut on pieces of paper so that you have 4 of each letter in the bowl. Mix the in the bowl and have the student draw the letters out and match them to the large letters on the flash cards. Say each letters name as they are pulling them from the bowl and matching. Encourage student to say

letter if speech skills are present.

Thursday Sunscreen

When we wear clothing that helps us stay cool we usually have more skin showing. But while we are staying cool we also need to remember that the sun shines bright in the summer more of the time and we are more likely to be spending more time outside. That is why we need to protect our skin from the sun. We can wear sunscreen, hats, and look foe shaded areas to help protect our skin from the sun when we go outside.

Book suggestion for class (English):

https://www.getepic.com/app/read/36889

Music and Movement: Let’s get our bodies moving

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GUnSL9p1_tA

Pretend: Let’s pretend water is sunscreen and put it on. How should we put on sunscreen? Help students practice identifying body parts as they pretend to put on their sunscreen. What other things should we wear to protect ourselves from the sun: hat and sunglasses

Kitchen/house: Playhouse with students pretend it is a hot sunny day what kinds of things can we do in our home to block out the sun, keep the house cooler and get ready to leave the house? – wearing summer clothes, pulling down shades to block the sun coming in the windows, use fans/AC, and when you are going to be going outside put on sunscreen.

Carpet/Block Play: Use blocks to create shade or housing to protect from the hot sun and flash lights to pretend they are the sun. Pretend the people toys will be outside what should the wear on hot sunny days- summer clothes, hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

Art: Help students create a tissue paper sun out of a paper plate. Have student cut yellow paper to make the sun rays.

Science/discovery: Help students put some sunscreen on their hand. Then help them make a handprint on a dark piece of paper (black, blue, purple). Help students make predictions: what do they think will happen to the sunscreen? What will happen to the paper under the sunscreen? What will happen to the other half of the paper where there is no sunscreen?

Leave it in the sun for the day and after a few hours look at the paper with students to see

that the paper under the sunscreen handprint is still the same color but the paper where there was no sunscreen faded from the sun.

Writing: Trace and write lines horizontal and vertical lines and basic shapes (circles, half circles, squares, triangles, rectangles). Trace letters /Ff and Hh /.

Math: Work on sorting and counting skills by sorting some different pictures or if at home the actual clothing (short pants, t-shits, sandals, hats and sunglasses) of summer clothing and counting how many of the different thing we have.

Literacy: Books- Sit with your child to look at books. Work on book handling and care, turning pages, attending to 2D images, and attending to a story being read to them. Work on picture identification and what and where questions while looking at books.

Phonics: Work with alphabet flash cards to match capital letters to the lower-case letter. Place the capital letters out 3 at a time then show your child the lowercase letter and give your child the direction match “b with B”.

Friday Hats and sunglasses to protect eyes

Yesterday we learned about the importance of protecting our skin

form the sun when we are playing outside. Today we are going to learn about using hats and sunglasses to help protect our eyes because the sun gives use the heat that makes summer hot, but it also gives us light. The light from the sun can shine very bright in summer which can bother and hurt our eyes. Wearing special glasses that are tinted dark colored glasses can help protect our eyes from the sun. Wearing a hat with a visor can also help by providing shade to your eyes.

Book suggestion for class (English):

https://www.getepic.com/app/read/59288

Pretend: Let’s pretend to sell sunglasses. Set up a stand and play salesmen let students take turns pretending to be salesmen and customer.

Kitchen/house: Pretend to be having a backyard barbecue or picnic make sure you are dressed and ready to be out int the sun. have students dress up in sunglasses and hats and pretend to put on their sunscreen.

Carpet/Block Play: Use blocks to try to build hats and glasses shapes. Use blocks to create other forms of shade that we have been learning about.

Art: Help students create their own visors and sunglasses.

Science/discovery: Help students test out different sunglasses and light sources (candle, flashlight classroom lights, sun light through the window) and lights on vs lights off to explore how and why we use sunglasses.

Fine Motor/Manipulatives: Use scisorrs and playdough to practice cutting.

Trace and write lines horizontal and vertical lines and basic shapes (circles, half circles, squares, triangles, rectangles). Trace letters /Ff and Hh /.

Math: Work on sorting and counting skills by sorting some different pictures or if at home the actual clothing (short pants, t-shirts, sandals, hats and sunglasses) of summer clothing and
