AargghhhhA little alien has landed outside and is allowed to come and live with you for a few days until his spaceship takes off again. They don’t know how to do anything that humans do!Can you think of something that you could write instructions about to help them? (you might need an adult to help you.)What about what to do when they get up in the morning? Or how to brush their teeth?Divide a page into 6 sections (you could always use more) and draw cartoon pictures of the steps they would have to take to follow the instructions. Keep your instruction plan for tomorrow.MathsToday we are going to be thinking about different units of time.We are going to be learning about seconds. Do you know how long this is and what you could do in a second? Some people count ‘One potato, two potato…’Others like to count ‘One Mississippi, two Mississippi…..’When I was your age, I was taught to count ‘One elephant, two elephant…’None of these can be exactly right but it will give you a bit of an idea about how long seconds last for.Using a stopwatch, (maybe on a phone) see how many times you can do these things in 20 seconds.

Jumping on the spot Writing your name Standing up then sitting down

Think of some other things that you could do and guess how many times you can do them in 20 seconds. Get someone to time you. How close were you in your estimate?Count 20 seconds in your head (maybe using one of the ideas mentioned above)Sit down or show when you think you have reached 20 seconds. How far away were you?

Can you try to count up the seconds with someone timing you and say ‘STOP’ when you think a minute has passed. How close were you to a minute with your counting?Sit for a minute without talking. Did it feel like a long time? Now do something you like for a minute and get someone to time you. Did time seem to pass quickly?Make a list of things that you can do in a minuteFor example, bunny hops, stretch up high then touch the ground, write your name, write the numbers to 100.
