P.E.

Whilst P.E. lessons have to take place outside, the P6 P.E. day is a Wednesday. On this day, the pupils can come to school wearing appropriate clothing for taking part in physical activity outside. For many of the pupils, their normal school uniform is fine for this. However, joggers/leggings, T-shirts/hoodies and trainers can also be worn. For the rest of the term, P6 will continue to focus on athletics and games!

School Farm

P6 will be given the opportunity to continue their fantastic work on the School Farm in the upcoming

During the first few weeks of term, the P6 pupils created a Class Charter. The pupils

discussed the importance of children having rights and responsibilities, and

then thought about how they link with the school values. P6 then worked together to create rules and expectations which we

think are important for a happy and productive classroom. Here they are!

We will make sure that we use positive language and make positive choices when we feel angry or upset. We will

think about our resilience strategies to help us!

Outdoor Learning

The class have enjoyed their new daily Outdoor Learning slot. The pupils have experienced a range of different outdoor learning activities, including: compass reading and direction, active spelling, designing and building eyries (nests) for Ospreys, team-building games and obstacle course design.

As well as this, the school is very lucky to be working with Mr Russell from Active Schools

Maths and Numeracy – throughout the rest of the term, there will be a large focus on developing competency skills for addition and subtraction. Specifically, being able to use different and effective strategies for solving different addition and subtraction calculations.

Literacy – within literacy, there will be a continuing focus on the development of writing skills, paying close attention to the ability to editing and improving imaginative writing. Moreover, P6 will focus on comprehension skills, analysis skills and discussion skills through the class novel.

Health and Wellbeing - the big focus within Health and Wellbeing is to continue to develop resilience skills, growth mindset strategies and skills for regulating emotions in a positive manner.

IDL – the class novel Sky Hawk has peaked the pupils’ interest in learning more about Scotland and its wildlife. This has promoted development in many skills, such as creativity, problem-solving, teamwork and map-reading.

The children have been settling in well to Primary 6. As a class, we have invested a lot of time in our health and wellbeing and in establishing our expectations for the year. We have reflected upon our goals and strategies for success to help towards the pupils having a positive P6 experience!

So far this term, P6 have been busy learning to describe, plot and record the location of different coordinates. They managed to create pictures using their plotting skills and even extended into using negative numbers! The pupils have also used their problem-solving skills to identify and classify different angles using the first letter of their names.

P6 have focused a lot on our tools for writing, particularly on extending and enriching vocabulary. They have analysed different pieces of writing, discussed the language used and applied this to creating their own writing based on setting description.
