Year 1 Weekly Tasks for Reading Session 1 What you will need: -a device to play the starter on and view the PowerPoint -matching sheet or paper and pencils Phonics- https://new.phonicsplay.co.uk/ Username: march20 Password: home Starter- Recap last week’s sounds- ai, ay and a-e Play the above game- ‘Buried Treasure’– This game is a great way to practise sounding out and blending previously taught phonemes (sounds) as you have to identify which words are real and which words are alien/nonsense words. The dancing pirates are fun too! (Grown-ups- You can select the phase 3 ‘ai’ grapheme before moving onto the phase 5 ‘ay’ and ‘a-e’ if and when your child is ready to access this.) Activity- This week we will be focusing on the following sound family: igh, ie and i-e. There will be opportunities to read and write words containing these graphemes. Match the word to the correct picture. Select a word or two to add into a sentence. (e.g. The boy went down the slide quickly.)

Session 1

What you will need:

What you will need:

-a device to play the story video on-Story map sheet/ pencil and paper-Recycled paper Have you heard any of these words before? Do you know what they mean? Can

you put them in a sentence?Activity- Watch the following Video– Year 1 Reading Tuesday- Story Video – WB08.06.20

Story Map- Re-watch the story from the beginning- Can you discuss the key events in the story? What happened at the beginning, middle and end? Pick 6 key parts- Draw each part in the correct order on your story map. Can you add a sentence underneath to explain what happened? (Grown-ups- you can record the sentence for them if needed)

Extension- Using some recycled paper (an old drawing, letter etc – remember to ask your grown up if you can use it first) make your own paper plane. How far can it fly?

Session 3

What you will need:

-a device to play the Phonics

video/PowerPoint on

-Sound Spotter or pencil and paper

Phonics-https://www.teachyourmonstertoread.com/(You will need to create a free account if you don’t already have one)

Starter- Play the above game ‘sighties’- This game is a great way to practise reading sight words.

Activity- Recap the ‘igh’, ‘ie’, ‘i-e’ sound family

Sound Posters-Can you create a sound poster? Write the grapheme in the centre of the rocket and then add the words containing that grapheme inside the stars. You can add some pictures to your poster that match the words you have written. If you would prefer, you can make your own poster. Have a look at the examples below for ideas.
