Fourth Grade RISE Newsletter Third II’ We have continued Unit IV: The Art of Bouncing Back. The lessons we have done this quarter are about communication skills. The heart of this unit is communication. The lessons delve into developing effective speaking and listening skills, as well as the impact of communication roadblocks. Leadership and collaboration were the last few lessons and introduced leadership skills and collaboration. The last unit, Unit V we will continue fourth quarter. It is all about Cultivating Your Talents and Passions. This unit assists gifted children in self- exploration of their individual learning styles and interests, as well as future career opportunities related to their interest areas. Choices Our Choices unit helps students become more aware of the choices they make every day. Every choice has a consequence, whether it is positive or negative. It allows students to organize, categorize, and reevaluate choices that they make on a daily basis. These activities will help students to grasp the importance, responsibility, and implications of their decisions. The Enduring Understandings are: People may make better choices if they first consider the consequences of their decisions and making better choices may improve the quality of your daily life. Fourth Grade RISE Newsletter Third Quarter

I’m Not Just Gifted

We have begun our Cryptozoology unit. The word cryptozoology literally means "the study of hidden animals". It originates from the Greek word "Kryptos", which means hidden or secret, and zoology, the study of animal life. There are 3 categories of cryptids we will learn about:

-Those thought to be extinct

-Misidentifications

-Those yet to be discovered and classified

Latin

Since last quarter, students have learned about the topics of Britons, Candidus’s experiences (one of the family’s slaves), the city of Eboracum (York), how travel worked, and the Roman army. Grammar focus has been on adverbs, consolidation, and imperatives (commands). We hope to finish the unit by the end of the school year.
