Task 1 (group) - Children to sort the pictures into living, dead or never lived. Task 2 (independent) - Children to create their own living, dead or never lived table and take pictures of items from around their house. Sunday: To solve word problems. Today the pupils will be using addition and subtraction to solve word problems. A word problem is a maths calculation written with words instead of numbers. The children will be shown a story about a little boy. The children will be asked what is interesting about the text; they may say the text has lots of adjectives and adverbs but there are also a lot of time words phrases used to start each sentence. The focus of this is to encourage the children to use time words and different sentence starters in their writing and explain that these time words describe when things happen in a story.

The next slide will show children examples of different time words and time word phrases. Explain to the children that the importance of going in order; first, finally, in the beginning and in the end as they describe when something starts or finishes.The children will do a short task together where they have been given a sequence of things that happen during the day and they have to add suitable time word phrases to the start of each sentence.

Task: The children will write sentences about their day and use different time words such as: First I wake up and brush my teeth. After a while I have my some cereal for my breakfast. Later on I play football little brother.

Tuesday: To identify rhyming wordsIntroductionThe children are identifying rhyming words. A rhyme is when words sound the same. The words ‘cat’ and ‘hat’ have similar letters in them which mean they rhyme. Sometimes, the letters can be different and the words still rhyme like ‘socks’

IntroductionToday the pupils will continue to use addition and subtraction to solve word problems.First the pupils will solve problems similar to yesterday’s task.

Pupils will create and use the bar model to represent the amounts in each word problem.

and ‘fox’.

The children will read and identify rhyming words in the text, ‘The Highway Rat’. The will read each page and underline and write down all the words that rhyme.

Challenge: The children will write down words that they know that rhyme with beast and feast.

Key questions:When do we use rhyming words?What are rhyming words?Do all the letters have to be the same?

Wednesday: To use describing wordsIntroductionThe children are describing the personality of the rat in the book, ‘The Highway Rat’.In the book the author describes the rat as a baddie and a beast. The children have to use the website ‘Kid Thesaurus’ to find as many words as they can to describe the rats’ personality.

Wednesday : To solve multi- step word problems with increasing complexity

Today the pupils will continue to use addition and subtraction to solve multi -step word problems.
