Food Truck Friday!By: Johnathan RichardsonOn December 14, South Shore will be having a food truck outside! The State Of Hip HopBy: DeLano Braboy The genre of Hip Hop has become number one amongst all music genres as it has grown to become a global phenomenon. Pioneers such as Eric B and Rakim, Kool G Rap, Slick Rick, Nas, Tupac, and more helped craft what is considered the golden age of Hip Hop during the 80s-90s. Fast forward to today, the landscape of hip hop has changed dramatically. With the help of social media, anyone and almost everyone has put on a beat and threw some words on it to call it Hip Hop. Upcoming artist Bhad Bhabie was previously known for being on the Dr. Phil show for issues with her mother, where she was dubbed “the catch me outside girl.” Now she has signed with Atlantic records and has put out songs on streaming platforms, garnering

millions of views. In response to the new climate, Will. I. Am referred to hip hop as the lowest hanging fruit. “The problem with Hip Hop is everybody could do it. It doesn’t take much to do it”, he says. Do you agree with Will. I. Am? Has Hip Hop become too lenient? Sound off!

“SWOOSH”By: Roy Curry Jr

SWOOSH! That’s the only sound that could be heard Tuesday night when our varsity boys’ basketball team, the South Shore Tars, went up against Carver Military Academy. The game was held in the gym at 5:00 pm and proved to be a great game for our team who fired on

all cylinders. They had their usual lineup excluding one of their top big men, Donovan Howard, who was out that game. The game was electrifying and it thrilled the audience whose applause could be heard from outside the gym. The team had a phenomenal shooting night, scorching the opposing team with a brutal offensive beat down while never letting up on defense. They finished the night with a score of 45 to Carver’s 28 points asserting their will on the floor and proving that they are contending this year and going for the state championship. With a breakout performance like that, I am eager to see what they bring next game and in the games to come.

December Detention AmnestyBy: Skyler M. Rains ATTENTION STUDENTS OF SSICP!!! From December 3rd- 21st,

there will be a waiver for all detentions if you come on time for school every day. The amount of detentions you have is a big factor when determining if you are eligible. Eligibility is very important. Your eligibility can determine if you can go on field trips, play sports, and participate in school activities. Even if you don’t have many detentions, you are encouraged to still participate. Take advantage of this opportunity and be on time for school every day! This is an easy way for you to make your way onto the eligibility list! Also, if you have any questions regarding your status, you can check your bag reports and tardy slips to see how many detentions you have. If you have any questions after that, you can talk to Mr.Ellen.

This week’s student spotlight goes to Mike Shelton. He is an amazing student in the classroom and an amazing athlete on the court. You can catch him on the court in #2 leading the team as captain. We met with Mike to talk about his role as student and athlete.Kaylynn: What makes you so determined?Mike: My willingness to succeed and a grind that won’t let me not be my best.

Kaylynn: How has senior year been so far?Mike: Senior year has started off rough. Most people say it’s supposed to be a challenge and be fun. But it feels like it’s only been challenging.

Kaylynn: How do you balance school and extracurricular activities?Mike: It is hard managing work, school, basketball, and extracurricular activities. Since I am a course IB student, I always have papers to finish every night and I have to make time for my family. It is doable. You just have to commit.
