Expand to Level

By default, the retrieved data for hierarchies are limited to the depth level indicated

by the “Expand to level” value in the Bex query

In BI 4.0 SP5, IT can change this behavior in the bootstrap command line of the

Adaptive Processing Server by adding a new parameter

-Dsap.sl.bics.expandToLevel=n

When set, Web Intelligence retrieves the data from the root to the nth depth level

Warning

By setting a value too high, Web Intelligence will retrieve the entire hierarchy data

which will have an important impact on the performance and stability of the system.

Recommendation

Report creator should always indicate explicitly the number of the hierarchy levels

they want to retrieve while designing their report queries

Note : n can take any number between 0 to 99

If n=0 or the command line parameter is not set, then hierarchies will take the « Expand to Level » parameter value into account

How to set the new Parameter in the CMC

In the Central Management Console, logged

with an Administrator account.

Select the entry Servers.

Select the entry Web Intelligence Services in

the Service Categories.

Select the Adaptive Processing Server which

has been configured with the DSL Bridge

Service

In the menu item Properties.

Navigate to the Command Line Parameters

property.

Now add the additional command line:

-Dsap.sl.bics.expandToLevel=7

Differentiate Version Dependent Hierarchies – Query Time

The query designer can differentiate the hierarchies versions.

Differentiate Version Dependent Hierarchies – Report Time

The report displays the hierarchy version that was used at design time

Level Selection – Ordinal (1/2)

Levels are identified by their

ordinals

Benefit: Avoid issues when

level name are translated in

different languages

Note : In this example “Level 03” is preceded by its ordinal “3”

Level Selection – Ordinal (2/2)

The level selection now displays and uses this ordinal

Level Selection

Members selection and levels selection can not be mixed

After selecting all members until a specified named level. It is no longer possible to

select a member which depth is deeper than the previous specified level depth

Note : In this example, after selecting “Select all Members until Named Level -> 2 – Level 02” it is not possible to select Canada or USA

Enable Query Stripping

IN BI 4.0 SP5 , the query stripping query property is enabled by default for

BICS data sources

There is no change for already created queries on BICS
