The new BARC system is web-based and is designed to work best with Netscape 4.79. Use the chart below to determine the appropriate set-up for your web browser to use new BARC.

I am a Thin Client user. You do not need to do anything.

Proceed to Section 1 of this document to uninstall the current version of Netscape you have and then continue on to Section 2 to download and install Netscape 4.79.

Section 1: Uninstall Current Version of Netscape

This section provides instructions on how to uninstall your current version of Netscape 4.x.

If you have a version of Netscape 4.x on your computer, but it is not Netscape 4.75, Netscape 4.76 or Netscape 4.79, we highly recommend that you uninstall the version of Netscape 4.x that you have before installing Netscape 4.79. Having multiple versions of Netscape 4.x can be problematic with using the new BARC system.

IMPORTANT: Please check with your workstation support staff before uninstalling any software from your workstation. They will be able to provide you with instructions and assistance specific to your workstation environment.

1. From the Start button in the taskbar, navigate to Settings����Control Panel

2. At the Control Panel window, double click on the Add/Remove Programs.

3. At the Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box, scroll through list of software at the bottom and select the appropriate Netscape application to uninstall. Click on the Add/Remove button.

NOTE: The screenshot below is only an example of the Add/Remove Programs Propertiesdialog box. If you have Netscape 4.79, you do not need to remove it.

4. When the Question dialog box is displayed, click on the Yes button.

5. The un-installation process will take several minutes.

When it is completed, the Add/Remove Programs Properties dialog box will be displayed. If you scroll through the list, the version of Netscape you selected to remove is no longer on the list.

Click on the OK button.

6. Restart your computer.

Section 2: Download and Install Netscape 4.79

This section provides instructions on how you can download and install Netscape 4.79 on your computer from the Netscape website.

IMPORTANT: Please check with your workstation support staff before installing any software on your workstation. They will be able to provide you with instructions and assistance specific to your workstation environment.

1. Go to http://wp.netscape.com/download/archive.html

2. At the Archive Products screen, click on the Versions 4.7x and 4.8 hyperlink.

3. At Archive Client Products screen, choose Versions 4.7x and 4.8 Client Versions and 4.79English from the two pull-down menus under Download.

4. Click on the Download hyperlink for Windows 95, 98, or NT – Complete Install.

NOTE: Even though Windows 2000 and Windows XP are not explicitly noted, this specific download file is compatible with both operating systems as well.

5. At the File Download dialog box, click on the Save button.

6. Navigate to where you would like to save the file. We recommend you save the file on our desktop for ease of locating it. Otherwise, remember where you save the file so you can locate it.

7. When the download is completed, click on the Close button.

8. Double click on the Netscape installer icon on your desktop (or wherever you save it) to begin the installation process. It is strongly recommended that you exit all Windows programs before beginning the installation.

9. At the Netscape Communicator 4.7.9 Setup dialog box, click on the Next button.

10. Read the license agreement at the Software License Agreement dialog box and click on the Yesbutton to accept all the terms of the license agreement.

11. At the Setup Type dialog box, we recommend you accept the default selections by clicking on the Next button.

NOTE: The defaults should be as follow:

1. Type of setup is Typical and2. Destination directory is C:\Programs Files\Netscape\Communicator

12. At the Netscape Desktop Preference Options dialog box, choose the list of option(s) you would like to have and click on the Next button.

13. At the Select Program Folder dialog screen, accept the default (i.e. Program Folder is Netscape Communicator) and click on the Next button.

14. At the Start Copying Files dialog box, click on the Install button.

15. At Question dialog box, you can choose to read or not to read the README file, which contains additional information about Netscape 4.7.9, by clicking on the Yes or No button respectively.

16. When the installation is complete, the Information dialog will be displayed.

Click on the OK button.

17. A window similar to the one below will display the components that were installed during the installation process. You can close the window by clicking on the ‘X’ button on the upper right.

18. You might see shortcuts icons, such as AOL, Outlook Express, etc., display on your desktop. You can remove any or all of them as you please by dragging the appropriate item(s) to your Recycle Bin.
