What is web based drama?

Web Based Drama can be studied on one level as stories that are presented in a dramatic way and like their TV Drama counterpart – they explore a range of sub genres which can also be hybridized. Again, like TV Drama they involve dramatic programmes that are scripted and are normally fictional. Crucially they have a shorter running time than TV Drama and lower production values.

Examples of web based drama

Key conventions of Web based drama

• Web based dramas are usually 6-10 minutes long.

• They are usually made up of an unknown cast.

• Enigma- questions asked by the audience.

• Iconography- this is what you see.• Web based dramas are made for

teenagers and 20-30+.

What is in a web based drama series?

• Entertainment- Pleasure• Addictive- suspense, tension and cliff hangers. • Series- means there is a story line that is not

going to end in that episode which means you have to watch the next one.

• Characterisation- stock characters- Hero- Villain- Victim

• Settings- Community and in a key location.
