Alice Wells to Discuss Afghanistan
in Islamabad Visit
WASHINGOTN - The US Princi-pal Deputy Assistant Secretary of State for South and Central Asian Affairs Alice Wells will visit Islam-abad on Monday for talks that will basically focus on bilateral and Af-ghanistan, Pakistani officials said.Alice Wells will hold a meeting with the Pakistani civil and mili-tary leadership to discuss bilateral issues and Afghan peace process.
She had opened the talks with the Taliban in July last year but the US peace envoy for Afghanistan Zal-may Khalilzad has been dealing with the Afghan issue.Pakistani media reported that the visit is aimed to strengthen the bi-lateral ties between the two coun-tries.Before this, US defense depart-ment notified the Congress last

KABUL - President Ashraf Ghani on Sunday endorsed credentials from newly-ap-pointed Australian, Qatari and Kyrgyz ambassadors to Afghanistan.President Ghani accepted credentials of the new am-
bassadors of Australia, Geoff Tooth, Qatari Ambassador Saeed Mubarak Al Khayarin Al Jajri and the Kyrgyzstan envoy during separate recep-tion ceremonies at the Presi-dential Palace, a statement from the president’s office said.It quoted the president as congratulating the new am-bassadors and urged fur-ther extension in relations between Afghanistan, Aus-tralia, Qatar and Kyrgyzstan. The president called the said countries as Afghanistan’s good cooperators.The events also discussed peace, economic, stability, education and training, elec-tions, terrorism and corrup-tion.

KABUL - A three-day exhibition showcasing women’s handicrafts commenced in capital Kabul on Sunday.Syeda Mujgan Mustafawi, deputy information and culture minister, addressing the opening ceremony of the show, said the exhibition was part of several upcoming pro-grams to celebrate the country’s 100th Independence Day. “We want to celebrate this day by arranging many programs and one of them is women’s handi-crafts exhibition.”Besides the celebration of in-dependence, the expo was also aimed at empowering women and finding markets for their products, she said.She said women from the capital and provinces had put on display their products such as handicrafts, edibles, jewelries and others at 50 stalls.She asked people to use domestic products as it would encourage women to work and improve the country’s industry.Mustafawi said the Ministry of Information and Culture (MoIC) planned to create special places for finding markets for women’s products ...(More on P4)...(6)
