“Dream it. Live it.” It’s not just our tagline—it’s what we do each day. And it is reflected in some of this past fiscal year’s achievements:

• 87% of People in Career Discovery Experience Landed Jobs

• 76% of All Services Are Provided in the Community

• Named a Top Workplace Again for 2016

• 10,613 Volunteer Hours Given by Those We Serve

• 212 University and Community Partnerships

• 624 Phone Calls Fielded from Families Needing Community Resources

That’s just a few of the accomplishments we can quantify. We’ve also launched two new services: Noble Employment and Workforce Services (N.E.W.S.) to help more individuals work in the community and Adult Day Services for adults challenged by disabilities and the effects of aging.

#BrightFutureAt first glance, Lily appears to be a typical toddler, sweetly giggling as she bounces up and down in her crib. Then you see the g-tube that provides her nutrition. Without it, even her puppy Blue and older sister Olivia wouldn’t be able to keep her awake. The technical term is long, but what it means is that she cannot process food. It has also meant Noble’s First Steps Early Intervention Therapies, a metabolic team and several specialists. The hope is that by the time she is 10 years old, she may be able to actually eat, but the condition is rare with no cure so no one can say for sure.

Big sis Olivia also received Noble’s First Steps services at Lily’s age. Because she wasn’t saying “da-da” or “bye-bye” or the other endearing words that one-year-olds babble, Olivia needed speech therapy and even learned some sign language before she caught up on her communication skills. But to watch both girls play with their puppy, you wouldn’t know how much they’ve been through. And for that, their dad is thankful.

At the Chest Press machine, you can hear Randy counting the reps under his breath as he lifts the bars—17, 18, 19—until he reaches the magic number: 20. He stands up and turns to Noble Community Guide Kelvin Solares: “Your turn.” Every Wednesday afternoon, the two drive to the Jewish Community Center to work out. After warming up on the treadmill, they move through a series of weight-lifting machines.

Only 35, he has already had a stroke that has affected his vision, gait and strength. But with Kelvin gently coaching him along, Randy has increased the amount of weight he can lift as well as the number of repetitions he can do. At the Tricep Press, he pulls 40 pounds for 14 reps before making Kelvin work his triceps too. After they finish the circuit, they head to the basketball court to shoot hoops before starting their one-hour volunteer shift folding towels.

Sometimes a little sibling rivalry can be very motivating, as DeJuane and Monique know. With only two years separating them, they have always had a friendly tussle over the limelight, and they’re not to be outdone by each other on the job. They found career help through Noble’s Community Employment Service. And although they had different Noble employment consultants assisting with their job search, they both landed jobs with Kroger—at different locations.

So each day, they head out from home to take different buses to work. Monique says she’s the more independent of the two and sees her Noble job coach every other week, while DeJuane appreciates having his job coach around a bit more often to talk things over with. What they agree on is the advice they would share with high school students: stay in school and think about your future. With Noble, their future is much brighter.

It’s a simple fact of life that even the most devoted parents need a break once in a while. Just a couple hours to recharge, so they can return to their son or daughter with a fresh bucket of energy. Of course, children also benefit from having other loving adults in their lives. While this break can be especially important for parents who provide 24/7 care for their children with disabilities, it is often much harder to find trained caregivers.

That’s where Noble helps parents like Lynn and David. Their 10-year-old daughter Sophie has an enchanting smile, and boundless energy. But with a limited ability to communicate, Sophie needed just the right person to meet her needs, and a playful spirit that knows life should be fun. In working with Noble’s Respite Manager, the family chose a college student who loves playing outside as much as Sophie does while having the skills to understand what Sophie needs to be healthy and happy. And because they have so much fun together, mom and dad can relax knowing that Sophie has a friend who also loves playing freeze tag.
