Founded by David Crooks in the 1950s as a traditional mixed

practice in the manner of ‘All Creatures Great and Small’, we have

now grown to supply modern veterinary care from our Cheadle

surgery and hospital at Meir Park while still maintaining our

original philosophies and caring for your pets as much as you do.

We supply caring and professional veterinary services to small

animals, horses and farm animals in Stoke-on-Trent, Newcastle-

under-Lyme and the Staffordshire Moorlands. As we provide our

own 24/7 out of hours service, you will always be seen by one of our

regular vets.

We also offer referral services in small animal surgery and internal

medicine at our hospital in Meir Park.

Here at Meir Park Veterinary Hospital, we provide all you

could expect from a veterinary practice and much more.

Despite our hospital status, we maintain the traditional

values of a small animal surgery and we are always here for

you and your furry friend whenever you need us!

Located in the family community of Meir Park, we provide a

home from home experience for your pet(s), making them

feel calm, comfortable and loved during their time with us.

Our purpose built veterinary hospital and hospital status

allows us to provide our own 24hr nursing care on site should

your pet require treatment or hospitalisation, so that we can

keep a close eye on them at all times.

Our own vets also provide a 24/7 out of hours service, so if

you need us at any time of the day or night, you will not be

asked to travel to another site, and you will always be seen by

one of our regular vets!

Vaccinations

Dogs Your dog should be regularly vaccinated against

• Canine parvovirus

• Canine distemper virus

• Leptospirosis

• Infectious canine hepatitis

• Kennel Cough

Dogs should always have an initial vaccination course (usually when they are puppies at around 6-8weeks of age) which consists

of two injections spaced 4weeks apart. Vaccinations should then be done annually after the initial

vaccination course.

Lime Trees Veterinary Surgeons are proud to be using the latest and improved vaccinations which now protect against even more strains of Leptospirosis - meaning that, with us, your favourite

furry friend is better protected than ever!

Vaccinations

Cats Your cat should be regularly vaccinated against

• Feline infectious enteritis

• Feline herpes virus

• Feline calicivirus

• Feline leukaemia virus

Cats should always have an initial vaccination course (usually when they are kittens at around 9weeks of age) which consists of

two injections spaced 3weeks apart. Vaccinations should then be done annually after the initial

vaccination course.

ID Chipping

It is always advised to get your pet microchipped - especially cats and dogs - to enable them to be more easily reunited with you

should they ever go walkabouts!

Microchipping may be done at any time, but our vets prefer to get it done sooner rather than later, and it is often done at a puppy's/kitten's second vaccination of their initial course.

While collars and tags can get lost or removed, microchipping is

a permanent and effective way of identifying your pet.

The ID chip is usually inserted between your pets' shoulder blades and gives them a unique code, which can be scanned and matched to your registered details on a national database.

As of April 2016, all dogs MUST be microchipped by

law.

Neutering

If you do not wish to breed from your pet, neutering is always recommended to stop any unwanted accidents and it also has its

own health benefits. Dogs Dogs can be castrated from 6months of age. This eliminates the chance of testicular tumours and reduces the risk of prostate problems and tumours around the bottom. It also helps with

aggression and sexual behaviour.

Bitches Bitches can be spayed from 5months of age as long as they are not in season (otherwise at least 1month after the end of the season). Spaying stops bitches having seasons, litters or false pregnancies. It also prevents potentially life-threatening infections of the womb and reduces the risk of mammary

tumours.

Cats Cats can be neutered from 5months of age. Castration prevents Toms spraying and therefore creating a smelly environment and also reduces fighting and wandering which can lead to disease

transmission. Spaying prevents Queens from potentially life-threatening infections of the womb as well as unwanted pregnancies.

Nurse Consultations

We have a number of registered veterinary nurses and student nurses who are able to assist you and your pet.

Free Puppy/Kitten Checks If you have a new puppy or kitten, our nurses would be happy to give them a full health check to ensure that they have a clean bill of health, answer any questions you may have and give you their

professional advice. Our nurses are also able to check and sex bunnies.

Nurses are unable to prescribe any medication, any issues of this nature would have to be seen by a vet.

Puppy Parties

We hold regular puppy parties at both our Meir Park and Cheadle branches, which are run by two nurses. Our puppy

parties are a great way to socialise your new pup with others of the same age and who are at the same stage in their vaccination

course - this means it's safe for them to play together! We send out our puppy party invites, but if you are interested, please call your surgery to find out when our next one is and if

your puppy is able to come.

Behavioural Consultations If you have a behavioural query with your pet you can book in for a behavioural consultation with Kathy, one of our veterinary

nurses. Please call your surgery for full details and to see when Kathy is

available.

protocol, and these consultations are a chance for you to discuss your pets medication with a vet and raise any concerns you may

have. Repeat prescription consultations are charged at a reduced price.

If you require a repeat prescription, please allow at least 48 hours notice for collection, as all prescription only medicines

must be authorised by a Veterinary Surgeon. Please allow additional time for weekends and bank holidays. Some items may need to be ordered in specially and require a
