Hat.”

The Cat in the Hat

by Dr Seuss”

He developed a connection with his Mum’s

nursery rhymes and his hometown environment.

This inspired him to write kids’ books. When he

was a child it was hard for him because of WWI

and his Mum and Dad being German. After the

war his childhood became a happier time.

Theodor Seuss Geisel more

common known as Dr Seuss

was born in 1904 in Howard

Street, Springfield

Massachusetts in America.

During his time in Dartmouth College, he got caught drinking during the prohibition and had to use a pseudonym to write in a magazine. This was Dr Seuss. Theodor went to Oxford in England, meeting his first wife there. He was bored at Uni and dropped out touring Europe instead.

He got in to drawing cartoons for another author. This lead to his first book: And to Think I Saw It on Mulberry Street, followed by The Cat In The Hat which was the way he became famous. He wrote over 60 children books and some are turned into movies.

Dr Seuss won many awards including 2 Academy

Awards, 2 Emmy Awards, a Peabody Award and a

Pulitzer Prize. Dr Seuss is well remembered for his

achievements, eventually dying at the age of 87 in 1991.

His stories, however, will continue to delight children all

over the world.
