Tips for Students at the PACE Annual Forum PACE extends a special welcome to each student at this year’s PACE Annual Forum! We hope you are excited to be part of the PACE Annual Forum, and we want you to enjoy the conference. Here are a few suggestions to help you make the most of the experience, and take advantage of the opportunities that are available.

Join us for the Welcome Reception on Sunday, July 23rd at 5:00 pm at the Cosmovitral. Registration will begin at 4:30 pm. This casual gathering is a great opportunity to meet students and faculty from other schools around the world, and to meet representatives from the PACE companies. Come enjoy the food and friendship.

Take time to meet and talk with the other people at the conference. Network with the students, faculty, and industry experts. Come to the Recruiting Session on Tuesday, July 25 to learn more about opportunities at some of the PACE companies. Bring your resume!

Monday and Tuesday are primarily dedicated to the PUMA project competition. If you are not part of a project team, we recommend that you attend the team presentations and learn how each group met the challenge to design a Personal Urban Mobility Access vehicle.

Tuesday - PACE Company Recruiting Event: As a PACE 2017 Global Forum attendee, you will be given the chance to network with the companies that sponsor PACE. General Motors, Siemens PLM Software, Autodesk, Oracle, Altair and ANSYS will give you the opportunity to speak with their professionals and/or recruiters about possible career opportunities and what it is like to work for their companies. Company contacts can also provide guidance on resume building and your future fulltime or internship job search! This event will take place on Tuesday, July 25 from 1:00 – 5:00pm. Please bring your resume for this event!

Be sure to attend the Wednesday and Thursday sessions! These two days after the PUMA project competition are filled with activities and presentations for faculty AND students. You can learn a lot from the presentations and workshops. Attendance at these sessions is required to obtain Travel Funding Reimbursement.

Executives from the PACE companies are here. Plan to attend their presentations, ask questions during Q&A, and even talk with them during lunch or breaks. What is the latest news from their company, how did they succeed in their career, what do they look for in new employees?

What if there are two activities scheduled at the same time? Professional conferences often offer two or more sessions at the same time in order to give attendees more options. The choice is yours – attend the session that interests you more, or that will enhance your skillset.

Friday, July 28 is “PACE Cultural Day.” Join other PACE delegates to visit local places of interest, and get to know each other better before everyone heads home. You may want to make plans with the students from another PACE school to sightsee or dine together.

Have fun! The Welcome Reception, Awards Dinner, and Friday Cultural Tours are opportunities to relax a little and enjoy yourself in the presence of friends.

We look forward to seeing you at the 2017 PACE Annual Forum!

Training Option 9: ANSYS FLUENT, Automotive Applications

Dates: July 19 (Wednesday) 1 day Instructor: Jesús García, ANSYS

Location: Tecnologíco de Monterrey en Toluca – Building 12, Level 2, PACE Lab

Course Description:

ANSYS CFD for Automotive Aerodynamics Aerodynamics plays an important role in the design of any vehicle. Due to the aerodynamics the entire performance of the automotive will be changed. Special attention should be address in the drag reduction because of its close link with fuel consumption reduction. In this workshop, the external aerodynamics of a car is analyzed using ANSYS-Fluent to determine its aerodynamic characteristics such as pressure distribution, down-force and drag. Furthermore, the attendees will be introduced to the classical CFD analysis workflow.

Windshield Defogging Analysis using ANSYS-CFD

Fogging in cold windshield (condensation of water-vapor in the form of small droplets and the related reduction of visibility through the glass), is a major safety concern for several automotive or aeronautic companies. Defogging is the process of demisting the windshield panes by blowing hot air which is very important for passenger safety. In this tutorial, Eulerian Wall Film (EWF) Model is used to model the defogging problem on the windshield. Defogging of the fogged liquid film in the windshield will be modeled as thin film via EWF model. Liquid film evaporates to vapor species and increases the vapor mass fraction of the core flow, and it will be modeled by Species Transport using ANSYS-Fluent.
