CHARACTER CONFERENCE
Dear Two by Two Friends,A LOT of fun and exciting character education took place duringthis beautiful, sun-shiny summer. From Character Camp and AdultCharacter Education Classes, to the three-day Character EducationConference and Gala Celebration…. our community was growing, learning, and demonstrating how to be the best they can be! This year, our summer campers were introduced to Humphrey theHamster with “The World According to Humphrey“ book and gotto take care of their very own stuffed hamsters! Humphrey taughtour campers to be responsible and how to be good citizens throughliterature, field trips, and friendship-building games. A specialthank you to Paramount Ambulance, Dubuque Rescue Mission, andEcumenical Towers for helping us accomplish our camp goals! Our adult course, “Creating Communities of Civility,” brought severaleducators through the Two by Two doors to prepare them for thenext school year. Education Director Nan Welch filled their mindsand hearts with many strategies to build classrooms of character! The summer concluded with a cheer before the school year…theColor Our World with Character three-day conference brought asuccessful end to the summer! With the generous financial supportof the Dubuque Racing Association, we were able to bring nationally recognized keynote speakers, Dr. Hal Urban and Dr. Kimberly Johnson, to rally conference attendees! A special thanks to all of our educators, supporters, and donors forjoining us at our annual Gala Dinner Event. What an amazing showof support! Our hearts are filled and we are ready for the new schoolyear!Thank you to our KIND COMMUNITY! With kindness,
Kristin Woodward-Vaassen, CEO & Founder
We had another successful character education conference this year! The "Color Our World with Character" conference had more than 100 attendees, featured 2 nationally recognized keynote speakers, and included breakout sessions led by 15 professionals from the fields of education, health, and child development. Now it's time to start all over as we plan for next year's conference. We look forward to seeing you all again August 1-2, 2017!

It’s been a busy time in the educational world of Two by Two. Together with our fabulous Two by Two teachers, Kristin and I led a complete revision of the Two by Two
curriculum offered to 4th grade classrooms in the area. With a new name – Captain Character Kids – we will be ready to pilot in January 2017. Looking ahead, we are excited to dig into the creation of a Family Toolkit – a new resource designated to support families in a deeper development of core values within a family unit.
