Twentieth Sunday in Ordinary Time

Holy Hour with Evening Prayer and Benediction:

Come spend some quiet time with Jesus, truly

present here at St Rita. 6:00pm Thursday

Aug. 20

Hurricane Season Prayer

O God, Master of this passing world, hear the

humble voices of your children. The Sea of Galilee

obeyed your order and returned to its former

quietude; you are still the Master of land and

sea. We live in the shadow of a danger over which

we have no control. The Gulf, like a provoked and

angry giant, can awake from its seeming lethargy,

overstep its conventional boundaries, invade our

land and spread chaos and disaster. During this

hurricane season, we turn to You, O loving

Father. Spare us from past tragedies whose

memories are still so vivid and whose wounds

seem to refuse to heal with the passing of time. O

Virgin, Star of the Sea, Our Beloved Mother, we ask

you to plead with your Son in our behalf, so that

spared from the calamities common to this area

and animated with a true spirit of gratitude, we will

walk in the footsteps of your Divine Son to reach

the heavenly Jerusalem where a storm-less eternity

awaits us. Amen. Originally dedicated to the victims

of Hurricane Audrey in 1957. - Fr. Al Volpe,

Cameron Parish, LA

“In Silence with the Cloud of the Unknowing”

Registration is now open for the 2020-21 schedule of “In Silence” retreats at Saint Joseph Abbey. The first re-treat takes place Labor Day weekend, Sept. 4-6, 2020. A series led by the Abbey’s Fr. Ephrem Arcement, O.S.B., “In Silence” is intended to help adults find spiritual re-newal and awakening by entering more deeply into the silent depths of God’s presence through exploring the life and writings of the mystics of the Christian tradition. The theme this year is “In Silence with the Cloud of the Unknowing.” Visit www.saintjosephabbey.com/in-silence for additional dates and to register.

St Rita Parish School of Religion (CCD)

It’s time to register! Due to COVID-19 restrictions

our St Rita Parish School of Religion classes will

be unable to meet on the school campus.

Therefore we have adapted a homeschool version

of our program. Students will register, receive a

book, and be assigned to a teacher. That teacher

will email the weekly lessons to the parents and

the parents will in turn email the completed

assignments back to the teacher. Registration

forms can be found on our website,

www.stritaharahan.com and also in the back of

church. We long for the day to be able to meet in

person, but until then, we feel this is the best

alternative.

the help of his Scoutmasters planned and directed

the entire project. Thanks to all who helped,
