Known for its use of elegantcurves and natural forms, the styleflourished across several European citiesbefore World War I blunted its ambitions.Now, step into the urban centers thatcatapulted the style into stardom: Discoverhow each city tailored Art Nouveau’s centralmotifs to its local traditions and uniquecharacteristics. Act 1Barcelona

In Barcelona, Antoní Gaudí is considered the genius ofModernisme architecture - the Catalonian variation of ArtNouveau. His patron, the known industrial tycoon EusebíGüell, commissioned several buildings, among them hisprivate mansion in the heart of Barcelona: the Palau Güell.Known for its radical application of iron, glass and stonework,the Palau Güell would become a landmark influence inCatalonian‘s architectural traditions.

Explore this magnificent specimen of Art Nouveau, perhaps inthe company of Güell’s descendents, who are known to stillinhabit Barcelona.

Act 2La Sagrada Família

In the final years of his long and prolific career, Gaudíundertook a masterpiece that he would never see realized.After more than a century of construction, La Sagrada Famíliaremains incomplete, but nonetheless astounding - a toweringicon of Art Nouveau architecture.

Meander between the picturesque structures that representGermany’s unique take on the style. Stand beneath thestatues of Strength and Beauty. Journey to the top of theHochzeitsturm and watch the sun set over Mathildenhöhe.

Wiesbaden was graced with an astounding collection of ArtNouveau productions, donated by a former art dealer. In2019, the works will be publicly inaugurated and shared withthe world.

Until then, the collection remains a private affair, accessibleonly to a privileged few. Gain a first glimpse into one of thebiggest Art Nouveau assemblage and meet the art dealerwho preserved these pieces for future generations to behold.

Be regaled with the history of select pieces and the stories ofhis efforts to acquire them.

Act 4Brussels

Victor Horta-widely considered a progenitor of Art Nouveauarchitecture. Replete with innovative structures and Horta’ssignature „whiplash“ style, the Hôtel Tassel served as aninspiration to many other architects during the period.

Indulge the eyes in a private visit to this magnificent building,observing the lavish craftsmanship that would come toembody Horta’s influential style.

Act 5Palais Stoclet

The Belgian capital holds more than an opportunity to studythe typical Belgian Art Nouveau - it is also home to the ViennaSecession, the Austrian variation of the style. The Secessionwas founded by renowned artists such as Josef Hoffman, whowould go on to establish the Wiener Werkstätte and designthe Palais Stoclet mansion. A remarkable example of theGesamtkunstwerk, the Palais Stoclet celebrates the full rangeof human senses in the way Wagner envisioned for hisoperas.

Act 6Villa Majorelle

While the Universal Exhibition in Paris was influential to thespread of Art Nouveau, it was the Nancy School that gave thestyle a home and a mission in France. One alumni of theschool, the furniture designer Louis Majorelle, went on toinhabit the Villa Majorelle, one of the first examples of ArtNouveau architecture in France. Crafted by Parisian architectHenri Sauvage, the building is known for its inventive use ofiron as a decorative element, as well as its consistent motif ofthe “Annual Honesty” flower.

Trace your fingers along the curving railing of its woodenstaircase; enjoy a seat next to its striking ceramic fireplace.Gain a private viewing of the building’s restoration before it isreopened to the public.
