REPORT FROM PRESIDENT

It has been both an honor and a privilege to serve the United Way of South Central Nebraska as President of the Board of Directors. It has been an opportunity to see the impact that is possible when caring people work together to help others. A sense of community runs strong in our area. Wherever you live, make it your goal to make your community a better place to live.

Through hard work, coordination, and the generosity of the many individual donors, area businesses, and agencies committed to making a difference in our community, we were able to surpass our fundraising goal this year. In 2018, we will see the evolution of the new Community Impact model emerge which will eventually allow us to address the root causes of our community’s issues in an effort to attain long-term community change. Identifying and developing sustainable solutions is more important than ever. By measuring program outcomes, we can focus on programs that are effectively creating solutions

I would like to take this time to thank the board of directors, this year’s campaign chairs Jeremy and Gretchen Anderson, the new Community Coordinator, Lindsey Hinrichs and Executive Director, Michele Henke. Along with their successes, they also saw their share of adversity. This group of individuals exercised first-rate leadership while working together to meet the challenges and embrace the opportunities. Careful investment of donor dollars is crucial and these individuals within your United Way are the best partners to do that.

For all of the partners, agencies, and staff and for all those that give, advocate, and volunteer, I am humbled and deeply grateful. Our community truly knows what it means that United We Fight, United We Win. I look forward to passing the gavel to my successor, Matt Baack, who I know will skillfully lead this United Way into the next year. On behalf of all of you, I thank you for your continued support to the United Way of South Central Nebraska.

Sincerely,

Vicki Rouse

2017 Board President

REPORT FROM THE CAMPAIGN CHAIRS As we reflect on this year’s campaign, we would like to give a special thank you to Michele and Lindsey. I believe it goes without saying that this year’s campaign would not have achieved success without the great efforts of those two. Just a month after our kickoff event, I accepted a position outside of Hastings. Michele kept a positive outlook and just pushed forward. The result as we all now know is that the annual campaign has again reached the goal we set! Again, please join me as we congratulate Michele and Lindsey on this awesome achievement. I also want to recognize Optix Digital Media and owner Jameon Rush for producing an extraordinary video for this year’s campaign. We began this year’s campaign with a Kickoff party at Heartland Bank. The event provided a first look at this year’s campaign video and also allowed us to reveal the true kick start for this year with the results of the pacesetter campaigns. Those companies that finished their campaigns prior to September were Mary Lanning Healthcare, Redline Specialty Pharmacy, Five Points Bank, Nebraska Public Power District and Heartland Bank. Together, these companies provided over a $124,000 boost to our $500,000 goal for the campaign. Throughout this year we have often thought of the advice past chairs Tim and Hilarie Redline gave us going into this year’s campaign. They said “It’s not about the goal. It’s about the need”. How true of a statement. We all know that the need in our communities served by United Way of South Central Nebraska is far greater than the goal. I want to thank all the people that work to serve those many needs in each of the 19 partner agencies United Way is fortunate to work with. As evidenced by the campaign video and the story told, every day these agencies make a difference and provide for those we call neighbors so that United We all truly do Win! I want to close by thanking the United Way board for their support and the tireless work they do. I want to again acknowledge Michele and Lindsey for a job well done in handling the heavy lifting for this year’s campaign. And I want to introduce our United Way campaign Leadership for the coming year. Ryan and Julie Samuelson and Travis and Kelly Augustine. These two couples are the owners of Ruhter Auction and Realty in Hastings and will combine to do a great job leading this next campaign. Good luck to them and Thank you all!
