Pope Francis has called a “synod,” a special meeting of the world’s bishops, to discuss the pastoral challenges facing families today. To help prepare for this Synod, which will be held in October 2014, the Vatican has sent a survey to every archdiocese and diocese in the world.

Archbishop José H. Gomez and the Archdiocesan Family Life Office would like Catholics to assist in responding to the Vatican’s survey. To that end, Archdiocese has eveloped an on-line survey and is inviting Catholics to take part. All information provided will remain anonymous and confi-dential. The results of this survey will not be published and the findings will be provided only to the Synod of Bishops. All Catholics in the Archdiocese are invited to participate. Further information and background, along with the survey can be found at: http://surveys.la-archdiocese.org/

The Bible offers us a rich variety of men and women who qualify as heroes, warriors, prophets, and wise men and women. And every so often it places before us a dreamer. Jacob had the first big dream, with that ladder connecting heaven and earth,

bearing ascending and descending angels. His son Joseph started off with dreams that put himself at the center, much to his brothers' chagrin, but later he saved himself by interpreting the dreams of others, including Phar-aoh. However, the most important dreamer of all was Joseph, spouse of Mary and foster father to Jesus. Joseph was asked to live out his dream. "Do not be afraid to take Mary your wife into your home. For it is through the Holy Spirit that this child has been conceived in her," he was told in a dream (Matthew 1:20). And not only that, he was to name the child Jesus, which means "God saves." What all this cost him we don't know. All we hear is that when he awoke from the dream, he did what had been asked and took Mary into his home. That wasn't the end of the dreams. "Joseph, take the mother and child into Egypt--Herod is trying to kill him." "Joseph, take the mother and child out of Egypt--Herod is dead." And Joseph did. Maybe once you begin to live God's dream it gets easier. God's dream is that we live in the world as God's adopted and saved children, working to bring God's peace and justice, mercy and forgiveness into our world wherever they are needed. --James A. Living God's Word We ask God to continue to save us in our own

day from all that would lead us away from God. We ask God to continue to help us to know Je-sus as Emmanuel, God with us, so that our faith

may be rooted in the wisdom and power of God.

St. Brendan Homeless Ministry

Sadly, no matter what time of the year it is there will always be someone in need of a decent meal.

The St. Brendan’s Sunshine Ministry understands this all too well.

We’ve been feeding the disadvantaged of the Hollywood area for over 8 years. Each week an email

signup sheet goes out asking for “angel assistance.” You can sign up to bring drinks,

an entrée, side dish or dessert. You don’t have to provide for a 150 people (like we do every week!),

you only have to contribute a small amount (about what you would spend on eating lunch at a restaurant).

We meet every Saturday at 10:15 at the Blessed Sacrament Social Center

(6636 Selma Ave.) and we’re finished by 11:15.

To spread some sunshine contact Joan Curtin

[email protected]. It doesn’t have to be

every week and it doesn’t have to be

gourmet cooking but it might just be the best thing

you do this year!

The Parish Nurse is available to visit seniors or the ill in their homes

Tuesdays& Fridays 9:am- 2:30pm.

In addition to checking on them physically,

they will also provide communion.

To make an appointment please call 323-938-8036 or

email [email protected].
