The lamps contain no electrodes or any electrode conductors passing through the lamp glass. The energy used to excite the gas molecules inside the lamp is magnetically induced by a high frequency power supply or ballast. This induction is done by means of two externally mounted ferrite based induction coils. The lamps are defined as being cool as they run below 100 deg C. Research into Induction lighting stems back for more than a century. Induction Lighting has recently been perfected for commercialisation. There are 59 worldwide patents on the product. 2014 BT Electrical - www.bt-electrical.co.za4 Slide 5 EVOLUTION OF LIGHTING The Initial ( 1 st ) Generation of Light Source; Incandescent lamp 2014 BT Electrical - www.bt-electrical.co.za5 1.Glass Bulb 2.Low Pressure Inert Gas 3.Tungsten Filament 4.Contact Wire ( Goes Out of Stem ) 5.Contact Wire ( Goes Into Stem ) 6.Support Wires 7.Stem ( Glass Mount ) 8.Contact Wire ( Goes Out of Stem ) 9.Cap 10.Insulation 11.Electrical Contact Slide 6 EVOLUTION OF LIGHTING 2 nd Generation Light Source; Mercury Lamps, Fluorescent Lamps 2014 BT Electrical - www.bt-electrical.co.za6 Slide 7 EVOLUTION OF LIGHTING 3 rd Generation Light Source; Metal Halide Lamps, High Pressure Sodium, Compact Fluorescent Lamps 2014 BT Electrical - www.bt-electrical.co.za7 Slide 8 EVOLUTION OF LIGHTING New Era of Light Source has emerged i.e. The Induction Lamp 2014 BT Electrical - www.bt-electrical.co.za8 Slide 9 FEATURES OF INDUCTION LIGHTING Patented IC controlled electronic ballast No electrodes or filaments, external ferrite coils Supply voltage ranges: Voltages (120-277V, 12/24DC) Wattages (15W - 300W) Available color temperatures : 2700K, 3500K, 4100K, 5000K, 6500K Excellent Lumen Maintenance over life Color Rendition, CRI 82 with no shifting over life High Luminous Efficacy, 80 lm/W Superb Efficient Power Factor of 0.98 Instant start up. 2014 BT Electrical - www.bt-electrical.co.za9 Slide 10 FEATURES OF INDUCTION LIGHTING Reliable ignition from -40C to 50C. Polished aluminium reflectors can be used with this lamp. Easy installation and retrofitting. Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) meets international standards. Low EMC interference frequency of 210kHz Low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) 2.7% Due to wide voltage range, electronic ballast and instant start up, the quality of electricity supplied to the lamp has no impact on the performance of the lamp. 2014 BT Electrical - www.bt-electrical.co.za10 Slide 11 VISUALLY EFFECTIVE LIGHTING Also called Pupil Lumens its about what the eye actually sees It is a measurement of the quality of Light and what the eye sees Supported by theory and incorporates the integration of phototopic and scotopic measurements. Meters for this have been developed recently. Solar Light from the United States manufactures the meter. Measures VEL and brightness. Example: Metal Halide gives off white light better VEL than High pressure sodium lamps, although the HPS gives off more lux. Objects are however, more defined under the Metal Halide light. 2014 BT Electrical - www.bt-electrical.co.za11 Slide 12 TYPES OF INDUCTION LAMPS CIRCULAR 2014 BT Electrical - www.bt-electrical.co.za12 Slide 13 TYPES OF INDUCTION LAMPS RECTANGULAR 2014 BT Electrical - www.bt-electrical.co.za13 Slide 14 TYPES OF INDUCTION LAMPS COMPACT 2014 BT Electrical - www.bt-electrical.co.za14 Slide 15 THE CIRCULAR LAMP Circular form factor is donut-shaped; well-suited for round fixtures such as low/high bay industrial lighting, retail and general outdoor lighting. Less consequential problems in production due to lights not working. Better light quality (CRI >80(Ra)). Safety & security improvements. High luminous maintenance rate (95% after 2000 hours and 85% after 6000 hours). Due to high working frequency (230KHz) there is no flicker on the lamps. Better colour definition. Colours of objects are brighter and more defined. Protects eye sight (no glare). 2014 BT Electrical - www.bt-electrical.co.za28 Slide 29 BENEFITS OF INDUCTION LIGHTS ENVIRONMENTAL BENEFITS It uses Amalgam
