Falset Marçà Cooperative came about through the merging of the two cooperatives of the villages of Marçà and Falset in 1999. This union has strengthened and built upon a business project, which produces and processes food products. This year, in 2012, the cooperative is celebrating its centenary year with its accounts back in order and real opportunities for continual growth. It is also immersed in a process of modernization and sales expansion. Falset-Marçà wines and olive oils are exported to 33 countries. This international commitment is combined with efforts to increase direct sales through our virtual shop www.etim.es and our three farm shops in Falset, Marçà and Cambrils. The cooperative sells wines, vermouths, dessert wines and olive oil. Our guarantee of quality endorses a cooperative system made up of 350 members, a team of 17 employees and a hundred years of experience in making wines and olive oils. Of all our products, Ètim stands out as our flagship brand. The Falset-Marcà winery building was designed by Modernist architect, Cèsar Martinell, who was both a friend and student of Gaudí. Modernist architects were profoundly influenced by mediaeval architecture. The importance of this building style has led the cooperative to be dubbed as one of the so-called “Cathedrals of Wine”. With an initial aim to open this building to the public, the cooperative has been organizing dramatized tours for the last two years. This new wine tourism has been further helped by the cooperative’s more modern image. We are + Cooperative – Going back a hundred years.

Located in the south of Catalonia, inland from the other Tarragona counties, Priorat is a region to be discovered at your own pace.

“In order to appreciate the character of the wines of the Priorat, you must first have experienced the ten-der green hints of spring; have seen its Grenache gra-pes, tinted with purplish tones of the setting sun; of its copper coloured mountains of which a local poet spoke; of the silver olive groves which keep company with the vines…They say that the wines are alive, that within each bottle lies a winter, a spring, a summer and an autumn for each and every vintage. They are filled with freezing rains, of searing heat, of the region’s cold spells… They also hold the vigour of fermented grapes and days languishing in barrels in the shady peace of the wine cellars.” (Priorat Tourist Board).

The county encompasses two wine appellations: DOCa. Priorat and DO Montsant, which share a com-mon history which dates back to the twelfth century.

Despite the DO Montsant’s apparent youth, it is based on a so-lid winemaking tradition, which, coupled with innovation and creativity, is leading it into the future. The Falset-Marçà Coope-rative is working towards this purpose.
