A right is something that a person needs, not just something they want.

Let’s try to see if we can identify what is a right and what is a want.

In 1989 the governments from across the world made a promise to all children. They promised they would help them all to have rights.

They wrote a special document called the United Convention on the Rights of the child.

All children have a right:

- to an education

- to a childhood

- to be treated fairly

- to be heard

- to be safe

With rights come responsibilities.

Who is responsible?

Adults are responsible for providing children with what they need.

We are all responsible for protecting the rights of ourselves and others.
